Hi guys !
First of all I just wanna say I love using the testing grounds for testing out builds on the fly and I utitlize them alot for practice and seeing how powerfull certain weapons are in differant builds and configurations.

However I also use the testing grounds on aim practice, learning where exactly certain weapons need to be aimed to head shot a variety of mechs. I've noticed most are very difficult even when aimed right at the head it doesnt seem to connect.

The point of my post is, I would really like to see newer model'd mechs in the Testing grounds. And also it would be great if I didnt have to scower the intire map searching for targets. Instead it would be great if there was "a" map where all the mechs in the game were either in a formation or easy to find. Given, thats the whole point of hiding them, to engage yourself in a realistic sinario of seak and destroy. There are times I'm really in a hurry to find an atlas and or stalker and test my weapons on it. Also the reason I want new models is because it would help enormously for some players to accuratly practice certain shots or targeting areas on newer mechs they are unfimiliar with. Mechs they dont often get a real good chance to encounter or just want to study how to hit them in general or specific areas. :(

OP

I normally use Terra Therma for testing as it's currently the hottest one, the mechs are lined up from C8/C9 to F4 if I recall correctly. In order from top right to bottom left, there's a Commando at C8/C9, there are a Cicada and a Catapult in D8, the Atlas and Jenner are in E7, there's a Centurion at E6 and an Awesome in E5, the last one is a Cataphract in F4. I'm pretty sure that's all of the mechs on that map.
If you go to the Commando first and make your way to the volcano, go through and take the exit on the opposite side you'll find all of them in that order, facing you. Rarely you'll spawn closer to the Cataphract so in that case you'll have to go the opposite way, you are going to have to turn around at every mech to hit them in the front which is annoying, but it doesn't take that long.
We could do with a couple more mechs on all of the maps, I'd say you could easily fit one of most or all chassis on the larger maps without it looking ridiculously cluttered. 23 at the very least should be possible, more might cause performance issues for some players.

If you're looking for a particularly rare mech, there's a Dragon on Forest Colony, I think it's near the B2 hill or C2 plateau, I don't recall the exact location.

How about make the test map customizable (user driven). Make it so it does not need the PGI servers to run on.. wait am I talking about a localized game server to play on? wow imagine that. Bet may of us would pay for that. And then I woke up.

lol Idk, I really hate the incovience of driving my mech to every location on the map to get to mechs and just shoot them. Why the bother? Why do we need to even walk a long distance? There should be a shootin grounds where the mechs just pop after you kill 1 or a new 1 rolled into place. Idk I guess I'm being lazy lol. I just find it very inconvient to search for Mechs when all I wanna do is Test a build real fast and join a group. Theres been times I had to drop a party just to test a build and hurry back but couldnt find mechs intime and my party left without me. Testing Grounds has become more and more Frustration Grounds for me lol.

The testing grounds are entirely client based, but you can't use it offline because you need to login to get your account data. They're never going to let players host their own server, it would cost them players that might buy MC otherwise.

Testing grounds really needs some mechs with ECM, AMS and both ECM and AMS thrown in.

Also, randomized enemies would be nice to have.

I agree with this completely. And to add the ability for the player to choose what mechs to populate the said testing grounds would be handy too.

While we're on the "shooting gallery" suggestion: It'd be great if some of those targets were moving / jumping -- between cover and without. No fancy AI needed, just moving targets.

They need to add a firing range, with every mech chassis stock built lined up in a row so we can practice on them. Use an existing map if you must, just drop them all in.

I really love all the good ideas I've read in here so far. Great stuff and positive results. I really hope the Dev's take this to heart cuz we really need updated Testing Grounds. With all the new chassis out there players need that experience at destroying theyre enemys with accuracy and speed. I think we all know where to hit an atlas or 2 lol. I really want to learn where exactly to hit all the Pheonix and Clan models. Even if we have the clan packages sometimes hitting them makes the differance.

Also Ive noticed that pretty much the only weapon I've been able to head shot most mechs in almost any position is Lazers. Balistics just dont seem to have the pin point acuracy even if it is visualy hitting dead on. It always spreads to the CT which isnt right. AC5 Shell's visual tracer has the diameter of the intire cockpits of most mechs lol. Being the Shell is probably half or a quarter that size but still you can clearly see it hitting the glass on the mech and it spreads to the CT. This is yet another reason an Updated Simple Fix to the Testing Grounds is needed. Hell I'd spend all day in the testing grounds blasting stuff away if I could lol. If I didnt run outa ammo. :)

Fix: forgot 2 words lol

I agree with this post 100%. It is possible to assign mechs to walk waypoints I'm sure. I'm not a computer wiz either but this is a great idea and probably very duable. :)

Commando, Cicada, Catapult, Atlas, Jenner, Centurion, Cataphract, Awesome. Unless there's more mechs somewhere but that's 8.

Haven't really thought about this one for a while.....

IMO.....

Training grounds should be a seperate thing...... so instead of clicking testing grounds and then a map.....you click testing grounds and it opens up a whole lobby type setup so you can.......

select a map.

select how many enemy mechs to place on the map. (and if you want all lights, or random, or even spread)

choose a spawn location anywhere on the map. (or choose from a selected few)

choose active AI or passive AI + difficulty. (Do the mechs placed on the grounds shoot at you when they see you & move or not ?)

You then also have the option in there to.....

Pick training missions that PGI sets up.

These would basically be like single player missions but based on training new players.....sort of like MW2:mercs first couple of missions really....

I wouldnt complain at all if PGI developed a PVE invironment you could add onto and buy stuff for. Just like what Cim City Online did. They started out online only and later expanded to offline simulations and it was a huge hit. I still play it alot. Mostly online though just cuz the offline gets boring. However I still loved fighting against AI in MW2-4 and the complex missions or training simulations. I dought theyll ever do this for us but hey, it cant hurt to ask. With all the material out there and ideas they have and a massive community support team I'm sure something can be done to fix this stale training grounds that's really really out dated.

Oh they could even SELL individual maps for a PVE invornment just like they did for Birds of Steal flight simulator for the PS3.

Edit: 2nd paragraph
