There's been about thirty bajillion of these, but now that we are closer to Open Beta and with the sudden torrent of Goonfloodtm I'm curious to see what the true numbers are.

Please bear in mind that the Periphery doesn't exist (yet?) so these are the only playable options for now (aside from Clan).

try this instead of a poll...

Might give you a better idea of what you are looking for (and faster)

(I hope I did that link right...)

Also, community warfare will not be added to the game until about 90 days after open beta starts, so until then, everyone is basically lone wolf anyways :(

Not too happy about the Clan-named and Wolf Dragoon clans that people have - I'd much rather see them change names and then jump to the clans when it's possible. Seeing a bunch of IS mechwarriors calling themselves Clan Jade Falcon is a little immersion-killing... B)

Once the clans are playable, by all means... just be patient and wait until then... :(

I hope PGI puts its foot down a bit and limits what players can use in the way of merc unit names (not worried so much about the lesser merc units, but the main ones should either be avoided or used only by key staff members for planned events).

I know I'll probably get flamed for this, but that's how I feel.

traditionally i will play a Merc for House Davion.....

either in a wolfhound , centurion, catapult , or marauder if given a choice...

in an rpg same but add a choice of victor , madcat MKII, or black angel

and when the battletech online time line catches up with the miniatures the madcat III, madcat IV and madcat E.......

I do believe this will be the case when the game goes live, but not sure where this was officially written. Can someone help us out with a link?

Ah the Lyran Commonwealth, where military positions are handed out at weddings instead of those little almonds.

Mercenary. And by mercenary, I mean of course the Eridani Light Horse. Nothing like clinging to long forgotten honor as the universe falls apart around you. :(

I prefer Davion - where we declare war at ours... and even TELL the enemy which systems we'll be invading by putting their details on the guests' plates... :(

I have always been a Gray Death Legion fan and as a result always go the route of a merc. I think it matches the game style better anyways. You accept or decline a mission and then go and perform it. Being a member of one of the houses makes this decision process less (you take orders). Maybe they will modify how you get missions based on if you go Merc or House (that would be cool and may convince someone to go one way or the other down the road) The lance structure makes mechwarrior perfect for multiplayer and a merc unit would fit into the guild/clan structure of other multiplayer games.

Well no it isn't, the Lyran Commonwealth doesn't exist in 3049. :(

EDIT: I'm technically wrong. http://www.sarna.net...ed_Commonwealth
