You don't remember pre-nerf Gauss? Or pre-Ghost Heat ppcs?
Or pre-blurrification vision modes?
I remember pre-GH PPCs only ever being useful in the brief window of time between HSR/hit detection fixes and Ghost Heat’s implementation. As for pre-nerf Gauss Rifles, I had/have a classic GR/4xML Flame I had a great deal of fun with. And frankly I hated the old Thermal anyways and was glad of the fix. Old Thermal was ugly as sin and also borked and you know it as well as I do
And let’s face it, Seph. None of that crap actually let you impact a fight. It just made you feel slightly better as you ran around the 270-meter rolling riot pecking at things while the
REAL MEN got their killing on in the scrum. Any sort of distance combat was, ironically enough, seen as not only suboptimal and a terrible waste of an otherwise perfectly good brawling ‘Mech (and if it wasn’t a perfectly good brawling ‘Mech it shouldn’t have been on the field in the first place), but also a sign of a total chickens*** pilot too scared to get mixed up in
REAL fights.
The second, of course, still holds true today – the only thing that’s changed is that now the chickens*** snipers rule the coop, not the Atlas Sumo drivers. Mid-line strikers like me are left out in the cold no matter who’s in charge, though.
