How Is It Even Possible That Anyone Looks Back On The Circle Melee Days With Anything Other Than Teary-Eyed Nostalgia?

Aside from the undeniable, absolute fact that that was the zenith of awesomeness and fun, that time was leagues better than the endless tartfest (either step or pop) that the game has since become.

Come on guys...
---

On a related note: Add a third base to Assault and alter the middle base in Conquest!
.
The third base in Assaultt should be in the middle and it should have neutral turrets that help the team that controls it.

The middle base in Conquest should be like the middle base in Assault and/or provide double points (or 1.5x points) to make it that much more desirable.

I started to, then I remembered A1 Splat/Streakcats, DragonBowling and testicle hugging ECM spiders and those tears dried up pretty quick. :D

*not arguing that it wasn't fun though*

Dude all but the last of those things were THE BEST THINGS EVER!

And ECM spiders would be easier to hit with Beagle (oooh, a free counter-ecm bonus!) and streaks!

"Hark, a poptart beyond yonder hill!"

"He speakest the truth, engage!"

"Sire, we are ill-equipped to fight such a target."

"Nobody is, son."

"How are to destroy such a foul beast?"

"artyartyartyartyartyartyartyartyarty"

It's going to take a lot to get rid of cheese.

(studies have shown that use of the terms "hark" and "yonder" makes you 37% more likely to know what you are talking about.

Studies have also shown that bringing up "poptarts" makes you 84% more likely to be agreed with on the MWO forums.

Studies have also shown that using the term "studies have shown" makes you infinitely more likely to have no idea what's going on.)

I've actually found that with clan medium lasers and SRM's, you can make some pretty beastly brawling mechs. I've been running a Ryoken which absolutely tears things apart.

It's actually very similar to the old Hunchback 4SP from closed beta when it had 3 missile hardpoints.

I actually like the fact that I can contribute to a fight whilst being more than 270 meters away from it, but then I'm a total weirdo like that. Not that I approve much of the current state of affairs, mind...but realistically, is it too much to ask for a middle ground between 800m snipery pokefests every match and Atlas Sumo every match?

You don't remember pre-nerf Gauss? Or pre-Ghost Heat ppcs?

Or pre-blurrification vision modes?

I remember pre-GH PPCs only ever being useful in the brief window of time between HSR/hit detection fixes and Ghost Heat’s implementation. As for pre-nerf Gauss Rifles, I had/have a classic GR/4xML Flame I had a great deal of fun with. And frankly I hated the old Thermal anyways and was glad of the fix. Old Thermal was ugly as sin and also borked and you know it as well as I do :D

And let’s face it, Seph. None of that crap actually let you impact a fight. It just made you feel slightly better as you ran around the 270-meter rolling riot pecking at things while the REAL MEN got their killing on in the scrum. Any sort of distance combat was, ironically enough, seen as not only suboptimal and a terrible waste of an otherwise perfectly good brawling ‘Mech (and if it wasn’t a perfectly good brawling ‘Mech it shouldn’t have been on the field in the first place), but also a sign of a total chickens*** pilot too scared to get mixed up in REAL fights.

The second, of course, still holds true today – the only thing that’s changed is that now the chickens*** snipers rule the coop, not the Atlas Sumo drivers. Mid-line strikers like me are left out in the cold no matter who’s in charge, though.

Yeah, so why not go back to the good old days when things were fun?

Your concern for the fate of those poor unfortunates who are neither jump-sniping cheesebears nor meat-headed 'MECH SMASH!ers is truly touching, Sephlock :D

Ahh the good ol days.

When I was told every day that I was everything that was wrong with the game. Things just seemed right.

The former are the scum of the earth and the latter are the only truly decent people.

The midwayers are rightly viewed the way elves typically view half-elves.

How can you be against someone who genuinely wants to have fun and enjoy the game in a manner that is the best for everyone?

Brawling ftw.
