So Russ mentioned in VLog #6 that the dev team will be scouting out ideas for maps: new maps, how some existing maps could be easily modified into new maps (ala Forest and Winter Forest), what maps we could see merging (Forest Colony into Crimson Straights or River City).
So what brilliant ideas can you come up with?
Russ also used the term 'vetting' in relation to these new map developments. Interesting to me, because it suggests they are thinking about how they could vette player created maps. I wonder if this means they are considering the release of a map creation kit? Would this be a good idea? I can easily see many advantages and disadvantages.
What do we think? Aye? Nay? Possible?

Alpine (Highlands)
----------------------------
I'd love to see a merge of Alpine Peaks/Forest Colony assets into Alpine Highlands (high placed cut of borders of alpine peaks to the north - B Line / D line). While maintaining the map (spreading?) of large scale as the Peaks, i would love to see more mountain rocks and Cliffs, making the terrain unfriendly for Battlemechs, and (almost) unaccesable for ground units (Vehicles).

I would imagine one road (or some sort of vehicly-accesable path), entering from one side, crossing over the enitre map in a valley through center, and leading out the orther side, while rest of the road surroudings (aproximatly 90% of them map) situated in high rocky cliff, that only a battlemech can climp and fight in. I can imagine one urban area (expedition colony and/or small city/village in the middle of the road and map placed in the valley) with some higher urban assets (because lets face it, the urban in Alpine Peaks doesnt provide that much cover).
Considering of high altitude above sea level, the map would be placed in unstable weather, from calm (visible) to snow storms (like the one in frozen city if not worse). 3 assets merged, no need to create anything new.
-----------------------------------
(River City) Starport
-----------------------------------
Ever Since the introducion of first large scale map (Alpine Peaks), I always hope (still am) that one day i would be dropped into large Urban Capital city with scales of Alpine (Like a city of Toulag on Planet dasher... former MW5 Vid). Honetly, i doubt that is possible to do without adding some new assets, such as destroyed sky scrappers and capital residential buidlings.
The idea of StarPort considers expanding the map of River ciry (Day/Nigh).

Now as we all know, there is a Interrupted Landing zone at D7D8/E8 of the map. What about creating a new map by expanding the borders of the River city beyond C Line, finishing the Landing zone, with some Urban surroundings at the end of it. (again you can use the current assets available from River City/ Crimson) You could also include the river which flows through the barricade in river city at C5/C6. I would say making the map of the same sizes as river city, and making it semi Urban (starport) and semi Enviromental (borders of a forest, mountains whatever).
----------------------------
Random thoughts...
Always thought that "Forest" Colony would be placed in some thick forest. At this point i would rather have it named sea colony, Miners Colony or Harbour colony (would require harbour though...)

Only real forrest i can see is at C Line D8 and 9 line borders of the map in those cliffs. How about expanding (creating new map) beyond those western borders, making a huge forrest.
From the looks of it, all the maps contain "by-bounds chopped off" places of the maps. Which were never even used. Would love some clarification whats beyond borders of Forest colony at A line for example.
I mean... Is there a terrain made? or Just point blank, while concept of the map suggests otherwise?
The map creation kit would be awesome btw Libs. At least a gold for map makers thats for sure. Im not sure if it wouldnt correspond with some Crytek Copyrights though.

I probably shouldn't be mentioning LL...
But MWLL devs offered some beautifull map enviroments such as "Asteroid map"

Why not creating something similar using those Tourmaline spiky mountains/rocks into an asteroid or some stationary rocky space object.
Also would love to see a decent moon map. While HPG is ok, I'd say its more like Solaris area map.

Was thinking of a mix of Terra Therma and HPG. One base would a be a Starport (tower, support buildings, transport ships, drop ship or two) and have HPG moon feel. As you go away from it it turns into the Terra Therma rocky build which leads to the enemy base which would be a mining complex (mining equipment, cranes, support trusses, and support and housing buildings).
The ground around the Starport is like starting on HPG, mostly flat to support the landing pads and such. But it would be a big starting area and be walled with an opening on each of the 3 sides with the 4th side being the edge of the map so nowhere to go. Going towards the enemy base will become uneven and go over rivers of lava with the bridges we have now on Terra. Then you have to take one of three roads into the mountain which is a sprawling mining complex where the material is processed and taken to the Starport for off world transport.
Now thinking Alpine Peaks sized map where the Starport area is as big as the city part on Alpine and same with the mining complex. Two large bases and the area between would be mountainous with the entire map being used. So coming out of the Starport south road would be a canyon network like road that goes around to the back of the complex. Going north would be like going around the mountain leading to the top side. And going (picking one) east would go over the lava river with the three paths towards the complex. Not straight roads, snaking roads with bends

What about Ballteship map made of HPG assets? (Mechwarrior 2 Ghost bear)
Nothing big with, a giant bay in the center of the map, with some corridors around it for brawler sneaking maneuvers.

How about something that is at least modestly immersive instead of these excessively "Gamey" glorified quake death match philosophy maps.
