According to the new Dev Vlog, mastering a 'mech will usually net you a weapon module slot. Given the pretty much worthlessness of these modules, I don't think I'll be bothering to get that master slot in all my 'mechs.

Very disappointed that the module rework is basically trying to force the use of these terrible modules rather than changing the module system more dramatically.

Not for a weapons module. Just so not worth it..

Yet another back door nerf. ;)

I master all my mechs just for a sense of completion, and the extra module slot.
I'll never use weapon modules if they are anything like the current ones. i.e. more heat.

Nope. Not worth it. I'm sure in the future they will come out with more weapon modules, but if what we have is any indication, they won't be worth it either.

What's wrong with the system they have in place now?

So, they're going to strip modules?

No, for a worthless weapons slot, not worth the effort.

Doubled basics is its own reward.

Extra module slot tends to come while just playing the mech.

Yes, I master all my mechs. Even my Locust-1V which I will very rarely ever play since I can't sell it is even mastered.

Watch the actual log, the Vlog. When he is explaining and trotting out the idea that they will have CATEGORIES of modules and each mech will have varying numbers of slots for EACH CATEGORY, they mention that some mechs will have one or two of each type of slot. They DO NOT state that all mechs have ONLY ONE mech category slot.

I would point out, we do have mechs already that have only one SLOT. The venerable K2. It was gimped because of QQ, initially having 2 module slots, then down to one. With mastery, we can have 2. Whooo hoooo. All cause it could carry two AC20...barely.

Another point, to be made here. As the man said, WHILE he was talking about the visual/graphic example that was to be displayed on the VLOG that he was narrating to in that sequence, "in this case the mastery slot would be a weapon module". I'm perhaps paraphrasing a little bit, however that's the meaning I got of it. Focus on those words... "IN THIS CASE". Maybe his familiarity with english is such that he chose an odd way of saying this, but to me that could well mean that either in some OTHER mechs, that master slot might be an extra slot in another category... or YOU MAY BE ABLE TO CHOOSE what that master slot is going to be used in. WE SIMPLY DO NOT KNOW.

What we do know is they've said something about it and people have gone out and done much of the regular QQ, immediately conflating a statement to some huge conflagration of bellyaching.

If you look at what I've said of this, about the VLOG I too have interpreted - people DO that, true, but I'd say that I've not read the DEVs words in the most negative, provocative and downright hackle raising manner that others seem to have, in thier quest to take issue with something, anything, in order to direct thier next forum crusade.

AND YES, I'll master my mechs. I have killed with SRMS at 280 meters. I have scored kills with weapons that were tweaked by weapons modules. Did it make a lot of difference, no. But it made some difference. And in the case of the 280 meter SRM kills, it had someone pissed off big time. That's how I know those modules work.

I master all the mechs I like out of happenstance, they don't need a new module system to tempt me for that.

However it's going to take some serious improvement to the weapon modules before I take them regardless of how many slots they give me.

Amen to that, but even so I have owned a single victor, stalker and highlander for ever now without bothering to buy the other 2 for each to grind them up.

So for new mechs in the future that I will be bothered about I guess I will aim for the doubled basics and let the extra module slot just be unlocked with casual play over time.

You guys need to look in the bright side!

I think of it as an excuse to be lazy about grinding up my mechs!

I'll master the ones I like, and not the ones I don't. Same as now.

I go for all elites usually and they get mastered in time. I won't be aiming to master my mechs in the future if all you get is another weapon module slot.

I may not even play my mechs, let alone master them, if the purpose of the module change is to put more power-ups in the game.

Even now I only master the mechs I play. I don't master them just to do it.

Of course theyre terrible we only have 2 levels of a planned 5 levels. The level 5 module will be 2-3 times stronger than the current level 2 modules.

I've never mastered any mech because the last module made a big difference. This doesn't change anything for me. The relative balance between heavy and assault mechs is not likely to change. The only thing that remains to be seen is whether this is a nerf on light mechs such as the Raven 3L with 3+1 module slots.

I do feel like the whole idea about weapon modules is a demonstration of how out of touch PGI is with the game though. It reminds me of the time they implied that 'end game' would be buying different multi-million C-bill modules for every mech in your hangar, like people were going to grind 500 million C-bills just for the satisfaction of never having to swap modules around.

It's cool that there's something for people with 1 billion C-bills and 1 million GXP to spend it on, but I'd rather see something like new mech variants or exclusive camo patterns for people who have sacrificed so much time (and real money, most likely) on the game.

If you play the mech, it will get Mastered eventually, anyway. If you don't play it, does it make a difference if it's Mastered? Why the hell take the time to Master a mech you're not going to play? If it's purely for completion sake, then the rewards for doing it are moot, and noting changes.

Myself, if I know I won't be playing a mech, I do the minimum and sell it. I don't care for a mechbay full of mechs I don't want, and since I stopped giving PGI money some time ago, my number of bays is finite. I'm sure as hell not going to pay them money to keep mechs I don't want int he first place, when I can always buy them back for free if I change my mind.

no need to master but you still must buy 3 to get one (or more) to elite for speed tweak which is a must have.
