Wich type of mech do people like more and why

I myself like the humanoid mechs more do to the fact that i like the way they look and in a more practable fashion i find they are better built designs

reason for saying that there better built designs is when you look at most non humanoid mechs they have a large long torso mass with little or no arms wich opens the right and left torso sections to enemy fire more then an humanoid mech does since there torsos arnt as long and they have arms that help shield those sections from fire when beeing shot at from the side

keep in mind this isnt to bash peoples preferances its just for people ideas

IIRC Cannonically the reverse-joint type 'Mechs are typically supposed to be more agile and faster moving, however it is more difficult to make their legs robust as the design is more easily damaged. Humanoid 'Mech legs tend to be more solid but less agile.

That said, when it comes to actual mechanics there isn't any difference so it is all aesthetics unless the game designers make things different.

I like most humanoid designs but some of the more machine looking ones are cool too. Some humanoid mechs are super atrociously ugly. But mechs like the Mad Dog/Vulture are cool in my opinion. Does the Summoner count as humanoid?

It comes down to coolness factor, yes. And that relies on a talented artist. If you've read through the tech readouts over the years, you can see what a difference a great render or sculpt makes in a mech. Mechs like the bandersnatch and the dervish live or die by how cool the graphics team makes them appear. sometimes they suck, sometimes they shine.

In the boardgame, humanoid mechs have an advantage with physical attacks and can often pick up and carry loot off the field, but I doubt we'll have such considerations in MWO.

I think it's more a question of individual chassis, as there are glorious and also wretched designs of both schools.

I like reverse jointed mechs like the Catapult and Stalker, because to me they're closer what I think of when I hear the word "mech."

Humanoid ones should be cheaper to fix, but the concept of being any difference will be limited at best, unless they introduce the Omni mech concept i think its just taste. I prefer chicken legs but thats just me..

Most of the time, but not always I tend to gravitate toward the non-humanoid mechs simply based on aesthetics. Mechs like the Catapult, Blitzkrieg, Fafnir, Stone Rhino and the Stalker really shine to me. I have never been a huge Japanese anime style of mecha fan.

There is nothing cooler than a chicken walker with no legs. I hate the more anime humanoid mechs, though some of the very western stylized humanoid mechs (like the Atlas) do come across as cool.

This and this. I will never set foot in a Centurion because if I wanted to pilot a Mobile Suit I'd plug in my old PS2 and play Federation vz Zion.

I personally hate Anime mecha crap myself, but Centurion and even commando in this game look pretty darn awesome!

Chicken walkers all the way home. To me, they look more like war machines, as opposed to the "armored knight" theme of humanoid mechs. Also, the Catapult is a masterpiece of form fitting function.

I've always been a fan of the Marauder. Even the ugly AC5 on the top add something cool to the whole design...
Birdy mech all the way
