Hey guys, I've got into the game and started downloading. Im pretty fond of Mechwarrior because I have played MechWarrior 2 and 3 and some expansion packs. A question to sirs and peeps, when i close the launcher while downloading, lets say ive reached 2000mb out of 4000mb, will i still have that 2000mb?

I was so excited to know Mechwarrior3 will have another sequel, and its for free! :D
i got it pretty late because i waited to have a laptop, desktop wasn't that powerful though

I still want to ask many things but maybe when i've got into the game ;)

Last time I interrupted a patch, it continued the download where it left.

I still need to advise against it, as it can lead to file corruption and a bad patch, which in turn can lead to all kind of problems with the game, even if he still manages to patch with a corrupted download.

If you have no choice, please run the repair tool after the installation is complete, to make sure you have no errors.

Edit:
Oh... and welcome to MWO. ;)

This game is very good but is nothing like its predecessors. If you can tolerate a PVP only game, you'll be fine.

One thing you should expect: a 50/50 win loss ratio over time. This game can get frustrating when you lose, but just keep hammering at it.

Welcome to the game. As mentioned earlier, I would advise against closing the launcher mid-patch. The game has a very steep learning curve. Activate the first tutorial they give you, and then watch the videos in the Training Grounds. They should help. The interface and UI shown are the old ones, however everything else is the same.

Add me in-game if you want an experienced player to help you out.

Also, ask all kinds of questions. This section is designed for that, and most of us would love to help you.

First of all... Welcome to MWO.

Egomane already said everything regarding the patcher/launcher.

MechWarrior 3 already got a sequel in MechWarrior 4: Vengeance. MechWarrior Online is cooperative PvP multiplayer only. Just to make sure you're aware, that there is no campaign mode at the moment and most likely not anytime soon. We will get a Community Warfare update this fall tho (hopefully... *knocks on wood*). It's not made clear so far what we'll get, but keep an eye out on the Command Chair section of these forums.

Be advised that you'll be limited to 5 posts in this forum as long as you're doing your first 25 matches (cadet bonus matches). So make use of the edit function if you have more questions and get those matches done as soon as possible. This is just a spam protection.

The attitude of some people here might be a bit rough sometimes, but hey... Big Stompy Space Robot Action is serious business! Feel free to ask anything tho, that's the way you can learn. And there're a lot of awesome people in here that are very newcomer friendly (especially our own Welcoming CommitteeTM Koniving).

Welcome to mwo. Personally i wouldn't highly recommend playing on a laptop (done that before). This game requires more cpu power than most games (that use gpu more) and can run both rather hot. Desktops perform better than laptops for this game (not sure why, maybe cpu power?) So i would suggest if it is too sluggish on your laptop consider upgrading your desktop's cpu (you can include gpu upgrades if you can afford it) to run this game.

Edit: Use your cadet bonus time (first 25 matches) to try out various trial mechs to see if any fits you. If you have any questions just ask.

Welcome Hindmarauder, enjoy the game. Remember you have a cadet bonus for 25 matches. I'd advice you to spare those C-Bills ;)

Also, be patient in combat and use cover.

And as stated above, expect a 50/50 w/l. Don't throw in the towel.

This resource (I'm surprised no one threw it at you yet) is rather handy. While it contains just about everything, I'm handing you the mechlab section of it.

Feel free to use it to pre-design your dream mech. It's called Smurfy. It has everything from charts to maps to the mech builder. Maybe even share what you come up with!

Welcome here! I would like to give you 1 advice: Don't waste your cadet bonus. If you want to buy a 'mech, first search for advice here on the forums or on youtube, or you can pick to buy one of the normal trial 'mechs variants, but don't buy one that u migth not like, or the cheapest/expensive one. If you don't like it, just keep it and only sell it until you really need the 'mechbay. Maybe when you get some experience in the game you migth like it.
