Unlike any other meches I've laid my hands on before, it came in with a massive instant skill boost somehow. I used to be a noob but after the purchase I now average 400+ damage each round including the early games without having basic skills.

Thank you, PGI. This game finally became enjoyable again.

Yes, you won, PGI, I surrendered to your special sale technique and bought a Nova.....

Not so sure if it's the mech itself that made your skills improve. (Most people are crying that the Nova has made them awful).

Though Clan weapons sound great (making you feel awesome).

The pleasant-to-the-eyes blue color is much easier on color blind people (and even on color-seeing people) than the off-yellow. Makes it Sooooooooo much easier to read enemy targets, see where you are shooting, etc. (The hud and the hud alone is just that awesome).

What're you running for weapons?

It's a wonderful glass cannon.

Be prepared to start losing arms and legs.

And be prepared to never alpha again, unless you want to become a super nova.

I am not sure if the arms and legs come off as quickly in the underhive...!?

Or perhaps it's just the kind of mech that naturally suits you and your playstyle? It's happened to me.

I've had some great games in Novas, but sometimes I feel the weapons are actually fixed to my knees and I can't shoot down any incline or over any obstacle.

6 medium laser as the main weapon, and focus on the enemy IS counter parts while maintain a safe distance. I buzz over, full damage, they buzz back, next to nothing :D

That's the damage of 2 AC/20 landing every 4 seconds once the enemy is within 450m, and Nova can fire 3 times without overheating on most maps, enough to strip a ST off from almost anything.

Per arm or just altogether? (If you're only running 6, slap in a targeting computer Mark 7 or higher if there is one. Start nailing mechs from beyond optimum ranges of their ACs even).

Really Piglet?

Another thread?

EDIT (to make this post worth something): I find that there is little the new clan mechs can do that cannot be also done with IS mechs. (Example: SCR with ERLL.. that can be easily replicated with Shawk, Griffin, or Wolverine.. except they can mount JJs too.)

I've never tried that.

I'm a bigger fan of the 6 ERML 6 ERSL and either 4 MGs or dual AMS with 1.5 tons of ammo.

How much extra range does the TC give?

ER ML: 450
MPL: 400.

After TC 7:
ER ML 484 meters
MPL 430 meters.

It's better with ER LLs for obvious reasons (beefing it from 890 to 950 with a TC 6).
Obvious reasons being that percentages will always buff the 'best'. If it gives x percentage to range, the ones with the highest range will have amazing benefits while the ones with short ranges will gain almost none.

I personally run 12 ER SL and 4 MGs. Good power. The range got a boost, but I'm not happy about the damage nerf. Getting that close is already dangerous. That fast but deadly firepower is what I relied on.

Yeah I was going to point this out. Some mechs just "Fit" and when you find one that does, It surpasses all expectations. The Quickdraw (before the JJ nerf made it not fit anymore) was one of those that "fit" me like a glove. Most people hate them and think of them as a failed mech design, but for me it was a top performer. I even managed to finish in 17th place in the Heavy vs the World Tournament will playing only Quickdraws and I hadn't even mastered them prior to the tourney.

In any case, to the OP, it sounds like you have found your mech. Congratulations, the game gets alot more fun when that happens.

I love the Nova. I swing pretty wildly on the damage per match, and I use a a couple variants of the Prime. The standard 12 C ER Mediums, and my cooked up mech, 2 C ER PPC's and 4 ER Small Lasers. I've been favoring the standard loadout for general consistency, but I like the opportunities the other variant opens up.

I had a great round as a Nova, too.

I thought about coming to the forums (with picture evidence) as "how to play a nova".

Then I remembered that random matches are random, and I am due a good match if I play somewhat smart, on occasion.

And, I'm humble. Just ask me.
