i recently had to change my motherboard 3 times ugh.while looking up boards i had read (for amd) you had to have an apu? the cpu+gpu chip to use 3.0x16 with a video card too.
i just redid my comp with my original athlonIIx4 but wanted to start a discussion about it and see if anyone is using 3.0?how does it work with intel+nvidia?are apus good or bad?i think i read the bandwith goes from 5g to 8g.discuss.

bah, meant to post this in hardware, move me Niko )

Hey there Gorantir,
I'm 99% positive there is only a handfull of AMD boards that can run PCIe 3.0x16, one of them being The SaberTooth 990FX Gen3/R2.

As far as I know you do not HAVE to run an APU, infact most of the APU's are weaksauce... I run a Sabertooth and have a FX8350 OC'd with an R9 270X. GPUz shows my PCIe 3.0x16 working with the bandwidth @ 179.2GB/s..

Seems to be working better than my crossfired 7770s that were in an M4a77td Pro board that only supported PCIe 2.0x16, the 7770s only had around 60 GB/s Bandwidth because of that...

Hope that helps

3.0 x16 physical, x8 electrical can handle basically any gpu on the market without bottleneck. so your strife was for no reason.
