Bought this mech over the weekend and have to say I'm disappointed with it.
Here's what I found.XL engine in it is bad,the arms get blown off nearly every game and the right torso is a bloody bullet magnet. The chassis can't take damage worth ****.Up against Clan mediums it is just obsolete.
Ltp you may say.well I am above average at this game and I see no role that this mech can do apart from distraction. It just can't duke it out and it's hardpoints are far too weak (arms and rt).
Any suggestions on how to get this mech to work would be greatly appreciated.

Well what should I say.
Its a medium Mech.
Mediums aren't for *duking it out*
It has an XL, it has Gauss so its obviously not what some people refer to as brawler.
( As if going solo or brawling would be a good idea in any case in this game its not an effin hack and slay )
This thingi isn't for getting up close and personal for zerging, its for lucky shots from medium ranges. ( 500 - 700m )
A Gauss rifles is something that has to be respected and at the same time something very fragile so if you see a Mech carrying it you shoot it.
This is realy a mech that should stay back and stay with the supporters or do guard duty for long range assaults. If you want a mobile attacking platform for strafing runns take a Shadowhawk, a Griffin or some SRM heavy medium.
Mediums are hard to play at the moment since Stormcrow and Nova have larger Weapon load outs and better Heat management.
Its time for the advanced or better retrotech IS weapons like MRMs, Caseless ACs and Mech mortars, maybe rocket launchers and Inferno Ammunition and Armor penetrating IS LRM and AC rounds. EMP Ammunition for SRM and LRM, Anti Ferrofibrit Acid Ammo for LRM and SRM, Hyper velocity ACs. ( Hey AC10 with range of AC5 anybody ? )
Edit: And please dont come with canon those things will be implemented much later.
I know that.
But are Clanmechs like in Canon ? Thank God no.
IS inner sphere Mech customisation like in canon ? Not a little bit.
Are Lasers, ACs and Missles anything like in canon ? Hell no.
So what ?
Get out with the fancy dirty stuff that sets fire to Claner behinds.

I have this GI build that I run from time to time, nicknamed Long Throw
Play as an escort to bigger mechs, hang back a little and use the twin AC2 to distract target while your buddies does the beating.

For some twisted reason it is one of my favorite mechs being both a hunchback and a hero. Not sure where all the XL hate comes from, but for me it works just fine. That HBK with a 275 engine can twist like a gymnast and turn like ballerina. I guess the trick is to know when to take your shots and when to hold and stay back. The damage output of this little quarterback is no joke!

Aye I tried this build and it's very good tho can get a tad hot.Much more versatile than the AC20 3 ml build I was running.

I just wished they'd gone with 1Ballistic and 2 Missile hardpoints. The Hunchback being my favorite mech pushes me to love this thing and to want to try something unique but as it stands I'm running it with the classic AC20 build. That build works fine on the chassis but its a little bit of a waste and overall the 4G is still my preferred HBK.
