It appears it is downloading almost the entire game again. This happend in a previous attempt also. After 2 attempts at using the repairer and it coming up with the .pak file error when launching, I did indeed uninstall.

If you uninstalled, then, yeah, at this point the repair tool would be essentially downloading the entire game. When you ran the repair tool in the past, did you run it as administrator? (Sorry if some of these questions seem stupid, or you've already answered them, I just wanna make sure all the bases are covered)

Yep I had to run the repair tool twice and both times it downloaded major content taking more than 2 hours. It works though.. no complaints other than 1 night of gaming lost.

Looks like it didn't try to do anything with the shader cache files in the engine folder. Can you check and see if you have a total of four pak files in the Engine folder that start with the word "Shader"?

i have:

engine.pak
shadercache.pak
shadercachestartup.pak
shaders.pak
shaderbin.pak

All in that folder, however all appear to be no more a few kbs in size. the biggest, shadercache.pak is 51,000 kb in size. im not a coder, but that sounds quite small.

Thanks for all this help.

No, those are the right sizes. Shaders.pak is only around 28 KB, there are two that are just at around 1,200 KB, and ShaderCache.pak is, like you say, just over 51,000 KB (which translates to around 50 MB). The error you're getting is from a missing pak file, so, this might sound like overkill, but at this point maybe we should just try to track down what's missing. A screenshot of the contents of the Game folder would do the trick (and save you from having to type out all the filenames). If that's an issue, then just let me know and I'll try to come up with a simple way to copy-n-paste a file list.

To anyone else watching this, Kriz and I may switch over to PMs soon, but if we do I'll be sure to come back and share the solution.

OK, I ran the repair tool one last time. It replaced the lavaworld .paks and the music.paks. After reading what you said, I did actually right click the repair tool and chose run as administrator, something I havent ever had to do before with any software. But I was listening to you and tried it.

I don't know if that was the problem, but maybe you should mention that in the troubleshooting section/fix section.

I would just like to thank you for your patience and help, very attentive indeed.

I did not realise how much I liked playing the game until I couldn't play it anymore :)

Very glad to hear things are back to an operational state. It does come as a surprise to me that you would need to explicitly instruct it to run as admin (the exe is set to try to elevate itself when it's run).

Guess this lends credence to the support team, since they always go out of their way to make people force it to run as administrator. I will look into this and ensure the tool is capable of telling Windows that it needs to run as admin, even when not instructed to do so.

Happy mechin'!

Ran the repair tool, got into the game managed to play for a couple of hours tonight and now on random occasions the mechs are highlighted in red entirely both in game and the mechlab will get a few pics up when i can....

Edit: not just my mechs but other players too!

....what now?

Sounds like a shader issue. There's an option to wipe shaders in the repair tool, but the shortcut is to go into the USER folder and, if you have a Shaders folder, go ahead and delete it. If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll track down one of our rendering guys to see if they have any idears.

Well, I ran the repair tool a second time, and that seemed to do it. Game seems operational now. Might include that multiple repair passes may be required to have the problem fixed in the resolution notes for the problem.

Just a headsup rather than changing DNS. I had forced the patch manually by going through MWO directory where it was saved on my computer.
You will find the directory \BIN
run the program file \MWORepairTool, it would do a search of errors, and resolve any discrepency that what it should be. (ie the latest patch).
It took attempts for me, the first time 15mins, second time 30-45mins, only because it updated x2
