Hmmm sounds like you got a bad download.
I would just delete what you got and go to the MWO website and download it. They seem to have the connection issue fixed and it should not take 8 hours.
Its a 2 part download - the patcher (small file) then run it and it will download the rest for you and get you up to date.
After you delete whatever you got via Google, I would go ahead and do a hard restart. Clears out the junque.
The actual game is BIG and may take a bit, but it should not take 8 hours unless you are on slow dial up or something similar.
Good luck
Edit: if you do not wish to download it again, you could TRY running the repair tool.
download from here I think

This issue has been resolved, all that's required is for you to run the MWO Repair Tool. This tool exists in the game's Bin32 folder. If you installed the game using "Typical" settings, this should be here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\Bin32
An alternate way to find this location is to right-click the shortcut to MWO, and click "Open File Location" (Windows Vista, 7, 8, or 8.1), or click "Properties" and then click the "Open File Location" button in the properties window.
Double click "MWORepairTool.exe". Review the options, change them as you see fit(two-way consolodation means that the tool will delete any files that it determines shouldn't be there, so if you like to keep backups in your game folder, you might wanna disable this option), and then start a scan. Once it's complete, go ahead and click fix. That should do it.
Thank you for the double-check.
