We've all been there, in the middle of a furball and the drop lead calls for concentrated fire...

"Primary Hotel!"

So you point your crosshairs at the clump of enemies and start hitting "R" to target. Unfortunately you cannot find Hotel. Oh he's in that clump of bad guys for sure, but hitting "R" doesn't cycle through all of them, especially if they are not touching your crosshairs... Very annoying...

So, I propose an additional alternative way to target a specific enemy. Drop lead calls a target...

"Primary Delta!"

You as the pilot can hit "T" for Target and immediately hit the letter designator of the target, in this case "D" for Delta, and as long at the enemy has a red Dorito over his head, you'll target it. If not, the command disappears. It's a quick two key command interface that won't interfere at all with combat.

"But "T" is already our Global Chat key...."

Very astute cadet... I propose making Target a Shift+T -or- since PGI has changed almost everything else at one point or another to move the three chat keys over one. Instead of "T", "Y", "U", make them "Y", "U", "I" instead.

Love the idea, but maybe have the default keybind be Shift + *Target designation*, or Ctrl + Shift + *Target designation* would be a little easier?

That's actually not a bad idea, i just don't think i myself would be able to use it to my advantage. Especially the I/J/K/L lance is hard to hit without looking and when your right hand is on the mouse...

How about we are able to mark our target as priority target. So one more key marks the target as priority, and all the others switch to the priority target simply by hitting R. But what if several players have marked a target as priority you ask? Well let's prioritize who's priority target has the highest priority :)

1) If your lance commander has a priority target, thats what you get when hitting R
2) If not 1) and any lance colleague has a priority target, thats what you get. If several have it, the last one that prioritized wins.
3) If neither 1) nor 2) but the company (or is it company?) commander has a priority target, thats what you get
4) If none of 1-3 is the case, but any mech warrior in a different lance has a priority target, thats what you get. If several have a priority, the last one to prioritize wins.

So how to prioritize?
Press 'P' or any other button. I don't care. Would rebind it to Q or F most likely anyway.

How to delete your priority?
Press 'R' (or priority dies)

How to select a priority?
Press 'R'. If you haven't targeted for > n seconds, you'll get the priority target. If you hit R subsequently (<= seconds) you'll circle through all available targets, no matter the priority.

I do understand that this won't be as easy to integrate into the game as, let's say 'tick box to hide trial mechs', but it could help premades quite a lot.
