Was Nicholas Kerensky just crazy, or did he form the clans suspecting that the Inner Sphere would finally unite in order to defeat them?

And the old way of Aleksandr Kerensky seems like a great cause, why are so many people against it? I suppose running away wasn't the best plan of action, but wasn't it better than more senseless war? Perhaps there was confusion in terms of the actual reason of Aleksandr's exodus. On a side note, I love Eridani Light Horse for sticking to the old way of Aleksandr to the best of their ability.

"The Voice of Kerensky"

For some reason, whenever I ask these sort of questions, people just tell me, "It's fiction, don't worry about it." The fact of the matter is that I want to know more about the fiction, and there are underlying messages, relatable ones, that one can learn from.

Nicholas was thought to be power hungry. Clan Wolverine accused him of being a tyrant even. His intention of forming the clans was to give each commander some kind of authority independent over others, not to divide the clans so that they would be defeated by the IS.. By doing this he was preventing the SLDF from fighting for power and because at the time he formed the clans they were fleeing from pentagon worlds because of a rebellion against Kerensky's rule. Battles could still be conducted but under the clan laws of zellbringen and batchall it made it less chaotic because the terms of the victory were laid out through the bidding process. "I bid my timber wolf against yours and if i win i get the planet of so-and-so, agreed?". Enclaves on planets often changed hands from different clans every now and then but few civilians cared because as stated above, clan law lessen the chaos of war

very good question Merata Z.Ihinimtah and good answer Mechwarrior Grimwill but remember both Nicholas and Andery Kerensky grow up on earth during the time when Stefan Amaris ruled. There mother Katyusha Kerensky was a part of the under ground so basically all they knew was War. So no he wasn't crazy just doing what he thought was best for he people

As mentioned Nicholas grew up only knowing the worst of the Amaris Coup from a young age, suffering epic PTSD issues that left him very quiet by his early teens and almost totally numb to atrocities. He (barely) survived the Eden Brain Fever that claimed his mother and left many others brain damaged, becoming even more unhinged and driven, a firm believer in might makes right along with "if your not with me then you are my enemy".

That said, what is clear is that Nicholas's Clans bare virtually no resemblance to the Star League of his father. In this its interesting in comparison to Jerome Blake's ComStar, both Nicholas and Conrad Toyama's vision for the future of their respective factions being at best a twisted perversion that their predecessors would have been horrified by.
