(I know it's a bit late, only just got to thinking and reading)

So, I must've missed the discussion about this and am either too blind to find it, too dumb to find it, or both, but Sarna.net lists the Summoner's top speed as 86.4 km/h, meanwhile the one we've got is only 81 km/h.

Would somebody please point me to the why?

Many thanks

**edit** just looked, same applies to the Timberwolf.

Sarna lists a number, but the number has no bearing on how fast the mech is in CBT, because it uses hexes.
The MWO speed is the actually correct one.

Technically no. CBT has well defined hex distances of 30m per hex, and 10s turn times. So a 5/8/5 Summoner would be moving max of (8*30m)/(10s) or 24m/s which translate to 86.4 KPH.

How nice of them to let us spend XP to improve our mech to where it's supposed to be : /

It's because TT had a distinct hatred of decimals, which caused them to round many things either up or down. In the case of 5/8 movement point mechs, TT rounded their speed up. MWO doesn't round, which makes it initially lower -- but you can get speed twerk to bring it up to 89.1 kph.

That's a bit odd because I recall all the TRO using the same formula to calculate speeds. Shrug it's not important, because as long as within MWO itself the speeds are consistently off by the same amount, the relative advantage each chassis would have over one another is preserved.

MWO uses a different formula for speed (Engine Rating/Mech Weight)*16.2

Speed Tweaked, its Speed*1.1

And when looking at that myself to try and determin kph walking speeds for MASC, I stumbled upon an alternative that still seems to work, when plugging in various MP amounts and comparing to known MWO speeds: MP*10.8

So taking a basic Walking MP / Running MP being 6 / 9 and the kph is 64.8 kph / 97.2 kph

But I think I just found the discrepancy with the speeds in that a Summoner with a 5 Walking MP would have a 5*1.5= 7.5 that gets rounded up to 8. That's where we get the disconnect from 81 to 86.4 on speeds!

And ninja'd too it looks like. :)

Technically, totally, as they said after my post. PGI did it properly.

In the table top game you could not move half of a space so it got rounded up. This makes them faster than the engine rating would suggest. However, their speed is correct in game.
