Personally I only do it during a GXP conversion sale, when my MC isn't enough to get anything I would actually want (for example too low to even get a light hero mech at 50% off). But that's me. The last time I did it I unlocked every single module at the time and still had GXP left over. But it was a while ago.

if I have some weird amount of MC that isn't useful in any other way, I will convert just because. I don't have a whole lot of unlocked GXP heavy modules so it helps.
