I like the sound effect, but that is about as far as that goes compared to the ERLL...

2 tons and 1 crit slot more, for less damage and a .2 second reduction in burn time? What the heck were they drinking?

In typical PGI fashion, the better/cooler the sound/visual effect, the worse the weapon. :)

So very wrong.

The Clan Large Pulse Laser is 1 damage more (well .2 damage shy).

Clan ERLL 11 damage (rounded)
Clan Large Pulse Laser 12 damage (rounded)

Not less, its more damage in less time. I agree it needs to be shorter then 1.3 sec, like making it 1sec duration would be good, leaving the rest of the stats alone.

Largely pulse lasers are how you identify someone either trolling or who isn't very good. It's a subtle 'I'm an easy kill' flag.

Three are a couple fringe exceptions - WubShees for example.

Somewhere though in the creation of the Clan mechs and weapons, they looked at it all and said 'You know, this is all pretty awesome and well balanced. We really should have some part or aspect of it that's just terrible; largely worthless and something for players to spend money on they will absolutely regret. We didn't manage to get any of the chassis to go full Awesome/Dragon/QD.'

'We can always just make pulse lasers total garbage. That's like just throwing three weapons in the Clan arsenal away - I know we pretty effectively ruined IS pulse. They're utterly inferior and have been since the beginning and we've put off making them other than trash for a couple of years now. However some fringe applications for LPLs have come up for IS mechs. Lets make sure that there really is no possible, viable, sane usage for Clan pulse lasers.'

'Good idea! Lets start by *doubling* the beam duration for pulse lasers!'

*round of hearty laughter and the bloody, damnable work begins*

I get the feeling that someone at PGI played either TT or MW4 and really, really hated how OP LPLs could be (Clan ones anyway) and so they've wanted to make sure that they're literally more pointless than MGs (which after the last nerf are amazingly pointless).

Some clan builds use pulses because they run out of slots and have tonnage left...like my LRM55 warhawk with 4 MPLs + TAG and 10T ammo. There were literally no slots left with regular ERML and 4 tons left over...

It is as bad as I thought it would be. Cut the beam time to the same as the isLPL and we can talk.

Speaking of which, the ISLPL could also use some love...

Hell, all PLs could.

That was mean :P.

How about dropping some ammo for a sweet targeting computer ;)?

You know, I've had some significant luck with TCs. A 3 or 4 really starts to work - I would say it's better than the zoom module actually, far less decay on image quality and precision. Also when you start to get into a 10% increase in projectile speed that's ~100m/s for UAC5s you start to really notice. The crit chance also seems to be worthwhile over time too - Clan lasers have more tics, each tic is a chance for a crit, so you start to see a wortwhile change in odds.

Finally you get the range bump - it's close to 100m too on some lasers, which is better than any of the crappy weapon modules IS gets. ~50% increase on how fast you load target data; with a precision weapon build that matters too.

Originally I wasn't sure they were worth it. On a laser/UAC build though (especially a mix of the two) I'm finding a TC3 or TC4 to be worth dropping JJs for. On a Warhawk, I'd drop the LPLs to ERLLs and put a TC7 in. It's a 133m buff to range and pretty much guarantees blowing out unarmored positions. ERPPCs would get a huge speed boost too; it's a percentage, so the faster the projectiles original speed the bigger the bonus.

I like TCs. the Command Console for IS is worthless trash. Might do it for 1 ton/1crit if I had the free space but otherwise, like many of the things left with IS mechs, it's not just trash but a means of mocking people about how utterly pointless and complete wastes of space some items are.
