hey guys :)

i am extremely excited about all the announcements that have been made... i've been looking forward to this for two years now. however, i do have question that i think is worth discussing.

personally, i love the emphasis on factions... the Genyosha insignia on the Jenner really brought a smile to my face. i understand avoiding the term 'Clans' for player organizations, but are the Merc Corps going to be the only form of organization besides picking a realm to fight for? what about House Units? would we be better off just making a Genyosha Merc Corp, or will there be something more... official? the Clans are already starting to pop up...

thank you!

Well, they're essentially just guilds, and guilds can have their own rules, including faction selection, 'Mech loadouts, how much role-playing should be done and such. Calling them Merc Corps sounds kind of strange, but it does offer the greatest freedom in my opinion.

On the side, I will laugh when the Clan Merc Corps are forced to choose a Great House at the beginning of the game.

Hah! Presumably they'll want to contract for the Lyrans/Combine so they're in a good position to jump ship when the time comes.

That might actually be the case, though from my experience, in addition to Steiner and Marik the usual Clan fan -also- tends to gravitate towards House Davion as their IS faction of choice, too. It might get awkward when new factions pop up like that (if they do) and suddenly everyone flocks to them--there might be a more gradual introduction somehow.

It worked well for the Wolfs Dragoons :)

Well a number of the Clans that have popped up are coming up with Wolf's Dragoons style stories. But yeah very curious how they will do the transition to the Clans. High end players? Strong teams?

I will probably sign up with House Kurita if I need to at the start of the game. My Fluff will be different though.

I'm very happy with the focus on merc corps, myself. It would be nice to be able to eventually create our own Regiments and Galaxies within the Houses and Clans, but, personally, I don't ever want to see a player running arround with the title Khan.

To those clanners out there, I suggest coming up with merc corps names similar to Wolves Dragoons. You almost certainly will not be able to lock any of the Clan names when you attempt to form your unit. So you might as well start getting creative. =)

My unit is the Night Howler's Merc unit. Ties in as Beta Galaxy of Ghost Bear's Nickname, which is the Galaxy my unit is part of. I have a post in the recruitment section.

Just think though... this has the potential of like 15 years of MW clans/units to resurface.

Well lore wise lifting whole merc groups into freeborn cadres doesn't make sense, BUT i'm sure that's what's going to happen. I hope the clanners don't expect to have in game trials of position or blood names to "EXACTLY" what they want.

in game ToP would actually be very interesting and could possibly weed out who plays clan and who does not. If you fail your ToP get back to the IS ranks.

Well considering most pilots of the clans are not bloodnamed. :)

Psht, like the clanners would take people that would so dishonorably abandon the inner sphere.

What are you doing, going to the very last pages of threads and responding to them?

My clan is going with "The Red Corsairs". We are laying a merc corp but technically we are pirates. The Corsairs come from the fiction as a clan unit posing as pirates to stir up trouble after tukkayid...we are just choosing to deploy them a bit early
