How about something that identifies what mech you're piloting? I'm not all that familiar with who manufactures what mechs, but if you're piloting a steiner mech, give us the steiner emblem somewhere in the cockpit.

I do like the MP3 player idea, be great running a mech with the likes of Maiden, sabbath, slayer and bolt thrower playing.
And a page 3 pin up (UK gamer will know what i mean by that........lol).
Beer/cola can in holder, and as mentioned elsewhere, a roll of gaffer/duct tape for those emergency repairs.

To put in another vote:

Customized pics are a ++, maybe even multiple slots per mech (though I wonder how many of your pervs are just going to put p-o-r-n up)

There's been alot of mention of an MP3 player, but if it were me I'd have a subwoofer and a set of speakers all around my cockpit to live the music, so make it an MP3 player with a speaker setup imo.

Scratch marks for downed mechs makes no sense as eventually ppl will have 1000s of kills and you just don't have the available space for that many dashes, but I would think a cockpit monitor somewhere that keeps track digitally would be manageable.

Another +1 for some kind of sidearm or melee weapon (katanas/daggers for the DC guys, axes for those vikings etc.)
