There's been a trial Dragon for quite some time now, and I rarely ever see that one (most trial heavies use the Cataphract).
Was there a sale on Dragon variants/heroes recently? I'm too lazy to dig through the sales announcements to find out.

The dragon is basically the cicada of the heavy class.
Where the cicada is a light pretending to be a medium, the dragon is a medium pretending to be a heavy

but it is technically a heavy weighing in at 60 tons.

The underhive allows non-FotM mechs and builds to find a niche. Running around in a fast striker be very effective if your opponents don't have voice-coms to deal with you, most of the time either too many mechs turn to chase you so your team can roll 'em, or not enough and you get a couple of easy kills.
Of course, it being the underhive, you also frequently get times where lots of the enemy turn to attack you but your team stay behind rocks playing Yu-Gi-Oh or whatever assaults and heavies do when they don't want to fight. PuG life yo.

If chassis had different armor profiles, Dragons might be more common then they currently are, if fewer mechs would be able to carry up to 12.5 tons of armor (400 points of armor).
It would be no different to how different variants have different hardpoint setups or engine caps, like with the stock Cataphracts; imagine if the 1X and 3D were limited to a max of 352, while the 2X would max at 416, with the 4X would get to mount up the weight class cap of 434?
I'd guess that the 2X and 4x would be more common, and the 2X could receive a balancing tweak allowing a higher armor cap in exchange for a lower engine cap. (The Ilya might also see a lower engine cap, getting similiar treatment as the 2X/4X with a higher armor cap).
Then applying the same to the rest of the mechs and we might see some interesting changes in fielded mechs.

They aren't a perfect chasi of course but there are a few builds with them that are INSANELY effective.
Sadly the chasi just takes a different approach then most of the playerbase are able to use.

You can fit an AC10 instead of UAC5 its just a personal preference thing.
remove some heatsinks if you need more ammo, and you can put ferro in as well this build already has max armor as well.

Agreed. Max armor should be limited by the base armor on the stock chassis. Not only would that help the Dragon but it would also help the Awesome. Because the Awesome would get max armor while the Victor would get less than max armor.

But can it outbrawl the SHD?
Both have good hitboxes for XLs, but the SHD has better hitboxes period. More hardpoints, more SRM tubes, same ballistic options, but nearly every SHD can mount an AC20.
JJs as well. I can't see dragons taking off. Not with superior chassis' in the game.

I never saw a dragon before that, that I remember.
But after the sale I am seeing them every now and then.
C&C out.

It's not competing with SHD. It's competing with Cataphracts. Either way, I guess it loses.
