as all of us know mektek kept MechWarrior running for many years, then started on heavy gear, and you can say left it. abrubtly
mwll started what looked to be a great MechWarrior game. these guys also worked on this for several years. and they did it in their free time. then poof no more support or any other work being done
now why would both these 'compy's' leave their work just like that. anybody got more info than what I have
sorry for the bad spelling.

As far as I am aware, they didn't quit work. Rather, they just shut down their namesake forums and moved over to the Heavy Gear Assault forum. That game is still being worked on and actually had an update as recent as five days ago. There has also been a steady stream of in-game screen shots.

I think 1 of the guys from MWLL works for crytek and the other for cloud imperium games which develops Star citizen which is made with the cryengine...

MWO complemented MWLL on their achievements and on the quality of their game.

And then sent them a Cease and Desist letter.

The official license for the Mechwarrior franchise is owned by Microsoft. To the best of my knowledge, both Mektek and the MW:LL guys were working without having gone through the legal hoops to secure the license...and Microsoft didn't really care. It was a dead game to them.

Then along comes PGI and purchases (rents?) the license from Microsoft. Since they're the only ones officially licensed to produce anything having to do with Mechwarrior, they shut everyone else down. Oh well. That's business.

On the other hand, it also means they put all their eggs in one basket. If PGI fails to produce a decent product and goes under, the license should revert back to Microsoft and then someone competent can pick it up. We hope.

Actually, what happened was the Australian Government secretely has plans to own the BattleTech franchise. Through its evil plans, they shut down MWLL and MekTek. Vent your anger at Abbot- for soon PGI will feel his wrath.

You are wrong. Mektek quit working on MW4 and gave back their non-profit license for MW4 to Microsoft. So they could work on Heavy Gear and have no conflict of interest. The folks at MWLL wuit on their own for their own reasons also. It is false that PGI shut down anyone in anyway.

This was all a play by the NSA; I am sure of it.

I'll buy the MekTek part. I wasn't entirely clear on that one.

But, the MW:LL team got a "Cease and Desist" order from PGI. That one's public knowledge.

Doesn't really matter, though. PGI jumped through a lot of hoops to get exclusive rights to the title so they can hold a monopoly on it. Let's face it, if MW:LL were still being produced, a LOT of players here would have jumped ship a long time ago. Back in closed beta, before the Cease and Desist order, there was a lot of competition between the two.

Do you have a source, all I can find is Russ Bullok and the lead developer of LL both saying there was no Cease and Desist order. Is this one of those "public knowledge" cases which turns out to be a forum rumour everyone decided to believe?

If by a lot... you talk about a the few hundred at best who populated MW:LL on a regular basis and made a lot of noise on the MW:O forums.. i guess you are right.

MW:LL was never any real competition.. Mostly because it was so unfriendly to new players even compared to MW:O.

Now i can agree that there was some "bad blood" between the die-hard MW:O people and the die-hard MW:LL people... But that was all it was.

I personally think the devs of MW:LL where glad for the chance to drop out... A lot of their communications in the end just sounded tired and worn out.

Thats as much "public knowledge" like the alien ship that crashed in Roswell.
