thermal vision as it works right now does not take heat scale of the target into account, a mech that has just shutdown from overheating is the same brightness as a mech that is still and hasn't fired its weapons yet, this is ridiculous and quite honestly a cheat to find people who are just spotting and other non direct combatant activities or effectively hiding in shadows or other hard to spot areas and should be fixed.

I like the idea of the heat contributing to the visual factor of an opponent!

Pretty sure they could revisit heat vision - scared they might hit it with the nerfbat though. Colour coded heat vision was OP anyway.

well my point is that if your not doing anything to generate heat or minimal heat such as moving, you shouldn't shine brightly against background objects, you are about the same temp as ambient (as in not much above) those who think otherwise have never used thermal temp vision tech. it does need to be nerfed to a degree, if a mech has been building up a lot of heat yes it should stand out but if not then no at least no where near as obviously.

If I remember correctly, it used to be this way back in CB. Mechs could shut down long enough to be almost invisible against the background. However, when they revamped the heat vision system, it was cut.
I think one of the reasons they cut it was to discourage powering down for long periods of time. It used to be that whole lances would power down while the rest of the team lead the enemy into an ambush, or people would power down to surrender when R&R was a thing. Nowadays, I mostly see people use it when they are the only one left to try and hide so that they can preserve their K/D ratio (thus taking advantage the system, not in the spirit of the game). Unfortunately, MWO has become much less tactical these days, and much more of a free for all kill-fest.
I would love to see this again but I don't think it will happen unless the current paradigm in the game radically changes... maybe when CW rolls out

If you shut down, you will lose the bright white aura and turn dark. I think it takes 5 or so seconds.
Ofc back in beta, it was Predator vision and very easy to see the glow.
Now it's "just" bright white and sometimes you can hide in/behind fire/smoke.

They used to have this - Mechs appeared blue and more difficult to see if running cool, with yellow and red splashes to represent heat spikes. For example, hot running Mechs look yellow and red. Cool running Mechs that were hit would be blue with yellow and red streaks (for lasers) and pock-mark style stitching for pulses, ACs, missiles, etc.
The current Heat Vision is a bit less difficult on the eyes, but less useful/informational. Overall, the older style was better.

It was so much better that it was even better than normal vision and everyone was using it 90% of the time like a predator.
The contrast and colors made it easy on any heat level to see enemy mechs.
