What about doing a treasure hunt sometime. Okay, let me explain. Take a map such as Forest Colony and put some question mark icons on it. A player would have just so much time to find the hidden items, including C-Bills, small amounts of GXP, and perhaps an item or two such as a machine gun, ammo, etc.

Any ideas?

Why would you want that?

actually doesn't sound like a bad idea for a game mode, perhaps in CW even. After all, sometimes two forces don't just want to destroy each other, they want to obtain something, perhaps from that abandoned star league base. Since mechs physically can carry stuff perhaps game mode can be developed around GETTING SOMETHING back to base, despite opposition... while the opposition will want to get it back to ITS base or goal point. Perhaps the mission type could start out with each enemy team being dropped at the same place/time because sensor sweeps manage to find the target and both groups are deploying as fast as they can to get the technology or other macguffin first. It might even be data. Crashed ship on asteroid is revealed to have data about something important... both sides hear about it, send force to seize and resultant situation is a fight where the mechs have to get to a single point, THEN back to their dropship. If the mech carrying the data is downed = loss... or perhaps standing on the downed mech w an ecm mech for 30 seconds will allow that mech then to have the data. Its like a mobile capture point.

missions with objects like data is one thing... a "treasure" hunt is another... this isn't an RPG (by that I mean the RPG style MMO's, since BT is obviously a role playing game), and I really can't see why you'd pilot multi ton warmachines to find "items" when it would make sense to send in ground forces for that task.

No, this just sounds like a crappy bonus idea to incentivize fast, light mechs.

Making light mechs more useful are the way to promote their use, not boondoggles.

A "Treasure hunt" as suggested?

NO. Completely and absolutely no. This is not NFS where you drive around for shits and giggles all day anyway and collect diamonds on the side to collect a card that will probably bes as useless as what yoiu had before. It`s also not GTA Online where the fact of it being essentially an anarchy simulator adds a measure of depth to it because everyone wants it. Nor is this Piurates of the Carribean, where you can somehow advance the story by going to place x and acquiring item y.

This is MECHWARRIOR, where the prime goal is to blow the enemy`s mech (aka. "big stompy robot") to as many pieces as possible using your own (possibly rented) mech.

NOW, something like a "find the VIP and Kill him /escort him off the planet" mode, that has merit, and would fit just fine into the universe. Or a "We`ve located an outpost that has a rich database of knowledge, go capture that, please" mode (which we currently refer to as "assault")......

But just the idea of a ultraheavy mechanized assault team randomly piddling around the map for some sort of "x marks teh spot now dig me up" deal is almost enough to turn my stomach...... All it would cause is everyone beelining to that spot, hoping to get there first and "win".

Though as a plus side, it would highly incentivise light mechs... specifically the Locust, Commando and Spider, which have 170kph variants, and of course the ECM lights. But unfortunately, not as battlefield participants, but as team members who can be counted on to leave the match as soon as the "treasure" is gone. :P

Uhhh...

They did mention they would like to do a real salvage drop from winning. i.e. weapons, etc from destroyed mechs possible after a match.

As for seeking out treasure?

The enemy mechs have all the treasure dug up already, take the loot.

On the positive note, game modes like this one and others of a similar vein might actually make people want to play with light mechs again.

I've never seen the Light Mech cue go any higher than 15 percent.
