This would be a really nice feature, talked about last year.

When can we know the map before the mech?

Do you really want every player to bring their LRM boat on canyon network? Turn mordor into an AC5 contest? Everyone would show up in the same kind of mech, with a loadout perfect for the map. The tactics would end up even more repetitive than they already are.

Personally I think its an awful feature that just allows players to min/max even more. At least by not knowing the map ahead of time youre at a disadvantage by not bringing a balanced mech.

For emergency missions (quick quests) in CW then not knowing the map would be ok I guess. But attacking or defending on a planet required extensive pre planning including terrain and environment. In CW we need to know where we are going and what the planetary environment (and area environment plus terrain) will be like. It's plain common sense. Pirates or Clans may not know much but you can be sure merc companies and militay companies will know for sure.

Typically in BT while they would know where they were going, they would not be able to completely change their loadouts like we could here. Mechs were expensive and hard to modify. Most pilots would only ever pilot one mech and if they were assigned to drop on a planet that did not favor their mech, they did what they could, but still had to put up with the disadvantage. The only way remotely have something similar is to not know the map we are dropping on.

A valid point
Not to mention it'd throw a wrench in 4x3

I just want the ability to load a specific camo pattern depending on the map.

I know, it's silly, but I want it. :D

they should make so the player is able to preset which cammo patterns one wants depending on map and od that automatically in the cammo-spec part of the mech lab

We need a way to queue up multiple mechs first and a lobby.

Because 4x3 is working in any match?

But they already answered it- you have to load your 'dropship' with mechs of the same weight class.

I think this must've been an old Ask the Devs segment answer to something.

It's likely to be another "position at the time" type of comment.

While not allowing IS mechs to not completely change their loadout based on map, one the points of omnimechs is to have flexible loadout choices so a mech can be configured for the expected mission.

If you load up a Warhawk with ERPPCs because you were told you'd be on Alpine Peaks, and then you get dropped on Terra Therma instead, it's just not very lore at all.

Most likely it will be a voting system with the standard map choice #1 or map choice #2 and possibly a 3rd random map choice. You know, the standard FPS lobby system.

Besides, it is all on the individual if they choose to overspecialize in a diverse battlefield.

It is highly likely this feature will be an integral part of front/planetary warfare (Q4 2014 - Q1 2015). But we'll have to get there to know for sure.

I hope never in public. This should be a CW-only feature.

If knowing what map you are going to play on goes in, you will see nothing but min/max mechs customised for each map only. It will basically be the end of varied builds.

I vote "HELL NO"

In 12 mans and in higher ELO matches, varied builds are more or less extinct already.

Doesn't mean we should make it that much easier for the rest of the players. No matter what, high ELO competitive matches will always be min/maxed as that is the nature of such rankings.

Huh...I wonder why noone has stated the obvious....

They gave us a way to choose what type of mission to join (conquest, assault, skirmish), why not give us a drop down to select a pool of maps to drop into?

Sure, it'll increase your wait time, but it's a price you'd have to pay to not have to drop on Therma or Caustic if you don't want to.
