Holy cow, this game was one of my favorites when I was a kid.

It's a Playstation 2 game that came out in 2002. The game takes place in an alternate reality where we have mechs by 2016 (I wish!) and the player was part of an international peacekeeping force that performs armed interventions on any nation that was about to spark a third world war. In this mission the player and his squad drop into Cape Canaveral, Florida, to destroy a space shuttle and a satellite-killing payload it has onboard that would cripple Chinese and Russian electronic systems.

The controls were very awkward because the left and right sticks were reversed (most shooters use left stick to move and right stick to aim, this game is opposite). However, once you got past that it was an awesome game with plenty of action and lots of mechs, weapons, and upgrades to unlock.

Plus, it has a soundtrack to DIE for:

If you happen to own a PS2, pick this game up. I can't imagine it's more than $15 these days and it's worth getting past the control scheme for. :)

I watched the gameplay for about 30 second and I'm already surprised how much this resembles Hawken and Titanfall. :)

Man that really is a great soundtrack.. I may have to check out some of the second hand video games stores around town and pick this up.

So many underratted games out there. I wonder what other hidden and forgotten gems lie waiting, hoping that one day a curious gamer will pick them up and play them to give them a chance to shine. *_*

There's a lot of good games out there that nobody has heard of.

But just look at the interface! Look at how jumpjet works! And look at how the arms retract when you dash forward! Hawken looks almost exactly like that.

Man, gamedevs....

Perhaps it's a coincidence? To my knowledge the Gungriffon series isn't that well known. ;)

Sure sounds like Joe Satriani music to me.

( Like "Surfing With The Alien", circa 1987 )

I never got this game (cause I only had an N64 for my whole life until 1 year ago when I got a PlayStation 1 and 4 years ago when I got a Wii). I was always a PC gamer though at heart.

There was a certain mech game I remember, but can't remember the title, and it was done by FROM Software, the guys who did the Armored Core and Dark Souls series. I can't remember the name but it was quite satirical. It appears to have been released only in Japan though, due to the topic.

Essentially the premise is like this. The US had a military coup led by the evil Vice President and probably aided by some foreign power. Just as things are going badly for the US President, inside and underneath the White House, there lies hidden a super hero mech. The heroic US Prez escapes with it, and the rest of the game is about the Prez fighting for Freedom, Democracy and restoring the American Way using his super Gundam like mech against all manner of odds.
