Browsing Sarna i just found the Dual Cockpit
Would anyone here like the idea to play with a friend in the same Mech?
I certainly would like todo that as I am a really bad shot but a good driver

Whats your thought on two players in one mech?

I hope they don't do this. If they do however, I wish they would limit the battlefeild to 12 pilots vs 12 pilots. A mech with two pilots will have an advantage over a mech with just one.

Command Consoles for large games, perhaps - but not the duals.

I said Yes...Not sure why...
On one hand, it would be fun to be able to play with a friend like this.
On the other hand, as Stray Ion said, it would mess up with the balance since a mech with 2 pilots would be better than a mech with just one, but far from being as good as 2 mechs.

It would be nice to say this, but only for the fun factor, not for anything else. There should be a "no opinion / not sure / yes and no" kinda answer

Maybe if they had a second matchmaker just for doubles. Then it would be 6v6 mechs with two players per mech.

No reason to, but I can see why some people would. If your buddy is sitting right next to you hand him one of the controls if it floats yer boat.

BTW ... a dual cockpit is Canon. The C3 computer doesn't run itself, it takes a person to do all the real coordination. Just like modern day aircraft there are trainer mechs in the books and some of the game books.

obviously both pilots would not be 'driving'...

i would't see this as a good thing if it were one driver one gunner.

the best case one pilot one battlefield commander, not many mechs have ever fitted a dual cockpit.

If I remember correctly the Dual cockpit takes up 5 tones of space. In otherwords the mech may have the advantage of two sets of eyes controlling manuvering and firing (only good if well coordinated), but it has to give up a lot of something. The reduction the mechs over all weapons, armor, engine size, etc. can then also be its down fall.

I would like to see this in the game. It may not be pure canon right now, but I think it would be fun. I also think that if dual cockpits were included, they should not count the 2nd occupant for match player count. 1 'Mech is 1 'Mech, and while splitting the pilot/gunner duties between two people can be advantageous, it requires far more coordination than a 1 pilot to 1 'Mech ratio.

However, I won't hold my breath, as I'm sure coding would be a real pain in the ***.

couldn't see this dual cockpit being part of a regular game, maybe they can work it into organized mech-warfare battles that have an impact on the galactic scale.

The Cyclops, Battlermaster, and Atlas are all assault mechs that had conversions for command and control upgrades for dual cockpits in a regimental command mech.

The "dual" part is a bit misleading as it is not designed for say one pilot and one gunner like a tank turret but for one person to focus on piloting and one person to focus on radio command channels and logistics of a regimental or larger sized battlegroup.

I would imagine if say one pilot was unconsious the other could take over the controls of the mech but this would only be in an emergency situation as the other officer in the mech is usually an aid or XO to the colonel who is the badass mech jockey.

The mechanics of this in the initial launch of the game are propably not that useful. BUT if they decide to develope some large scale command and control mechanics for regiment or even battalion scale conflicts this could have some value.

What about the ever popular rear facing and torso mounted cockpits. Those were real oddballs. Did anyone ever actually use those?

It would be fun to play with a buddy like that, Hot seat or over Live. Just make it a separate Matchmaking game mode.
