So I have enjoyed this game on and off. When it was closed beta and had limited mechs but smarter players (they used the R key even when there were no LRM boats on their team, and would focus fired, etc). When Atlas was king of the assaults with red glowing eyes, BEFORE ARTY/AirSTRIKEageddon (seriously, does everyone have to have this, 10 per side is TOO MUCH) the game was fun. It had a nice "feel" to it. Pew Pews (lasers did something useful, ACs were not OPed (or as prevalent as they are now) it felt good. This game was MUCH better then its original completion, World of Tanks. I could play this game (PUGed or not) and enjoy it more then WoT at a consistent bases. I even stopped playing MW2/3 and MM Legends for this in HOPES of Community Warfare as promised being better then WoT's clan setup for PUGers.
Sadly, we have all the downs. Rubber-banding mechs, server issues (which have started back up and SUCKS big time now for no reason, I never have more then 50 ping and yet mechs rubber-band like I have crappy 500+ ping.... and its worse in assaults and heavies, not so much in lights, ninja patch to get more light users?). We have reduced visuals (really, the game looks worse then it use to most of the time, less mechs exploding, damage models look pathetic compared to the old ones, etc), invicible mechs (really, why am I not hitting the spider that shut down on a hump RIGHT in front of me!! only my hunchback seams to hit what it aims at until it's neutered).
Additinal Pros/Cons:
Pros:
- 8 and 12 mans are fun. You are more likely to do something in this game since it doesn't have tier systems like WoT and Warthunder.
- Destroying mechs is just plan fun. YES I took out his arm/shoulder, that mech is going down. Limping chicken walker!!! Die you imperial dog, this is not the druid you're looking for fun.
- competent players (sometimes) that don't rage-quit due to uneven teams/elos (WoT had too much of this, really a program that predicts if you will win, and then you leave cuz it said you have only a 40% chance to win....)
CONS:
- Network code/issues!!! TOO MANY IN A ONLINE ONLY GAME. Really? Navy Field is the only other online game I've seen people deal with this kind of crap. Ruber-banding, unsyncs, discos with out coming back (FINALLY fixed, even WoT had this at the start), invincible mechs do to "hit coding" useless weapons, etc....
- GHOST HEAT, nuff said. It was the worst of the proposed ideas. The way the clan AC weapons work would of been better as a whole for all AC weapons. Stop pinpoint shooting? nope, Poptarters still do it, stalkers can still boat 4 PPCs and live, etc. Stop 1 shot kills... no, i have fond memories of lucky ac20 shots (received and given) to commandos (extinct light, i know) in the face(see above, destroying mechs). I digress
-LIMITED MAPS. The maps are ok, I like them better then most WoT maps, but really? Why not make a random map generator like in old school MW, and put mechs back where they were able to go almost anywhere and not get stuck?
-Getting stuck on cars/pebbles, etc. Really, giant mech not STEP ON or OVER a tiny car? Oh that hill doesn't look that step, I should be able to climb it.... nope my feet are too big in this heavy mech.... LAME. World of Tanks FINALLY fixed that part of the game for the better (tanks can go almost anywhere, but if they flip they die.....) why can't you?
-Limited game modes. WHERE IS CAPTURE THE BASE mode. One lance defends with turrets the other (all assaults and heavies/mediums) tries to ASSAULT and capture one point. WHERE IS Community Warfare with bonuses for winning matches on a planet?
-No map/CW/Game mode tie ins as PROMISED. The game should have random map generator for a planet (so no match is the same and lights scouting out positions/spots means something) and you fight 10 match on random ice map to win ice world, etc..... MAKE IT HAPPEN PGI, can't be that hard
SO, Game DEVELOPMENT TIME for this sucks. World of Tanks is the only other game that seams to develop this slow, and they just milking money. In fact, they would be making lots if Warthunder didn't come out and do everything better. I've played this game, WoT, Warthunder, Marvel Heroes, shoot even Star Trek Online and Navy Field since closed beta. This is the only game to limp on so long with so little done. Case in point:
Marvel Heroes is only a little over a year old. THEY UPDATE STUFF EVERY FRIDAY!!! New heroes (equal to mechs), new maps/game modes once a month, game balance and progress rather then saying "EVERYONE MUST HAVE GHOST HEAT" they do the smart thing and say "PPC stalkers will get ghost heat to stop the 6ppc OPed 1 shot heavy kills, THEN we'll see if it needs to change others." Marvel Heroes LEAVES it's test center up so EVERYONE can try future patches before hand and offer feedback.....
Warthunder, while a few things changed I don't like (research and development of planes/tanks...), it has steadly moved forward the last... 2 year? They added (as promised) tanks, and navy will come next year followed by total war of all 3 in one match). They already have TONS of great looking and playing planes and tanks. What has Mechwarrior Online done since it's closed beta? Double mechs (doing so also made most obsolete. Why take hunchback when you an take a Shadowhawk, why take a catapult when a Timberwolf is WAY better, etc) added clan weapons (which is how ALL weapons should perform), shoehorn people into long range and poptarting fighting styles (this is as bad as the WoT metas. just buy gold ammo, etc).
If PGI has nearly the same staff size of Marvel Heroes, OR the same staff size of the Tanks only part of Warthunder, why the hell is it going so slow? Why are they NOT LEARNING from OTHER MMOs?!?? Heck, even HAWKEN is developing faster then Mechwarrior, and it's only be out for what, 7 months? Hawken has nearly the same size team yet the game has graphics that are nearly better, more game modes. Hawken is Call of Duty with mini-mechs, PGI is turning this game nearly into that game, YET Hawken doesn't have 1 hit kills of any kind....sigh, rollarcoster ride and LAME GAME DEVELOPMENT TIME here.

PGI how do you respond for your slow work?
Why is there not a random map generator, or more work on the things we want rather then your WoT style money grabs by making new MC hero mechs?
What other games capture the old school simulator feel of Mechwarrior that I can buy rather then trudging in this? YES a single player mechwarrior is wanted as much as a Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 3 game (especially after both communities tried the MMO offering and are so disappointed...)

Well game was patching, I wanted to play a few quick matches but frustration with how long it took to patch (I though UI 2.0 was suppose to eliminate this crap.... so now we have a convoluted UI and STILL have to wait extreme times for patches/updates?).
Warthunder (better then WoT and WoWPs in everyway) patches in under 10 minutes. It does a daily 5 minute server rest/maintance and that's it..... MWO took over an hour for server maintenance and then another 20 to 30 minutes to patch (aka add 2 mechs.....). When warthunder added tanks, (the longest patch besides downloading) they took servers off for 2 to 4 hours LATE/early morning (compared to PGI's... "uh i guess we can patch it now that we just finished it" mindset) and it only took 30 minutes to patch. THATS A HUGE difference since one is only added 2 mechs and the other added like 30 tanks....
Sigh, like navy field this game is fizzling to a close. Destiny is coming out, warthunder kicking butt. may WoT this game (stop playing due to better games until i unistalled it for a lame beta...)

You pretty much hit the nail on the head with your post. The game was great when it came out in beta with some problems but it was beta. Then after then taking stuff away that I like about the game and giving us trinkets instead of fixing stuff they took away it really turned me and most of my friends off from the game. Tried to come back and see if things changed. But after 4 matches I had enough. Had 1 decent game 2 got killed before I made 100 meters off spawn because the spawn points suck(river city) and got tk'ed because some twit thought I shot him instead of the guys that I couldn't see that were shooting me. So his friend and him blew my legs off. Then I get looking at all the crap that you can put on the mech and the modules that give your weapons extra range is just lame.
Most games should be fun. It's not.

Yeah, its amazing how dev team is making game actually worst, instead of making it better... It is even more obvious if you play some classic stock games and you out half of the crap they invented.

Yep the old footage always makes me look at the current game and it's meta and facepalm. There was a time when everyone wasn't just using ACs and PPcs, when lights had to fear bigger mechs, and everyone didn't poptart/direwolf stare down you to death. All the attempts to fix "fast/oneshot deaths" just changed the game to "you'll still die EXTREMELY fast, but atleast it will feel like 2 guys did it while your screen shakes uncontrollably"
yea, plenty of lol/messed up things of old, but not as many as now. Example, DRAGON BOWLING!!! the only thing dragons were ever good at, nearly ruined the game for anyone not in a dragon, but negated their messed up hitboxes....
