Hi. I'm Brenden. You may remember me as the guy that made that Roleplay thread, way back before the game came out about the Planet that suffered from endless rainstorms that was under the control of the Draconis Combine. I think it was sometime in 3041 or so. Cannot remember the date.

Anyway, I was thinking of making another thread like that. Dedicated to Roleplaying which apparently was an excellent thing at the time, but I've been gone for two years. So I have no idea what the big thing is around here, if anything at all.

What do you guys think? I appreciate feedback.

Sounds fun. I know their are bigger role-players here than I. I would definitely like to read as it progresses

Oh yeah. There's plenty of RPers on here, so if you give a shout out for who's interested I'm sure you'll get a decent amount of people interested. I may have some time coming up soon to start another character...

It's good to see you again Spark.

I suppose Thom. But how will I help get the word out?

You could always put out a 'casting call' for RP page. Just give a general background of what the setting is, when, where, and whatnot with the basic rules; no god-moding, Mary Sueing, Clanners, flakes, wanna be super-spies... etc. Just be sure to mention if anyone has any ?'s or concerns to not be too afraid to voice them. Also a standardized bio sheet would probably be useful too.

To my knowledge there are loads of players looking for a new rp. Storylines seem in short supply so it'd be welcome.

Mmm... The name will have to be catchy. The story line as well.

Just pitching an idea out there...

What about New Ivaarsen during the War of 3039? The players are part of or attached to the Draconis Combine's 4th Ghost Regiment as part of Operation Orochi, designed to be a show of force to make the Federated Suns and Lyran Commonwealth think the DC was militarily stronger than it was. With ComStar secretly giving the Combine lostech gifts, there's a good opportunity for the players to have things unusual for the setting, while the storyline calls for our plucky heroes to stare down the mighty AFFS arsenal and not blink.

Thoughts?

I'd be up for this!

The War of '39 is one of my favorite settings, and I'd completely support Sparks' idea. Would be interesting to play it from the other side of the fence though. Also, we'd be up against the 1st New Ivaarsen Hussars, a very well trained and well equipped unit who hat Dracs. Would be a fierce fight, and we would technically "lose" as we wouldn't end up taking the world. If it was intended as a raid though, striking military supply assets for the region, different story. As a gateway world to Robinson, a successful hit and run or capture of assets would scare the pants off the Fed Suns High Brass.

My thinking strategically was that the goal of the 4th Ghosts would be to seize positions to make it look like they are planning to invade rather than just raid (securing production facilities, food stores, infrastructure and the like) all the while preparing to pull up stakes and retreat off world as they know they can't possibly hold the world. However, what the 4th Ghosts know and what the AFFS infer from their actions are different things; to the AFFS, it looks like the Combine are successfully waging a counter-invasion and taking planets, a mistake that ultimately causes the AFFS to hold back reserves to blunt the expected overwhelming attack on Robinson and New Avalon rather than pushing their own invasion. That attack never materialises, and Hanse Davion eventually realises he was tricked.

I was thinking of having it a little more open in plot structure than some of the other RPs that have been run here, more in line with Thom's "Life and Death" role-play. There's a general advancing meta-plot, but each player can be involved in their own mission without requiring the involvement of another player. So, I might describe my 4th Ghost captain digging in for guard duty in a town that the DC have captured but whose inhabitants still hate them, while Shepherd describes his New Ivaarsen Hussar escorting civilians back from the front lines. Meanwhile, Brenden and Thom, a Yakuza Ghost and disreputable merc respectively, are collaborating a bank heist from under the noses of both the DCMS and the AFFS authorities. Hopefully, that will allow frequent posters to continue their own posting without needing to hold back for less frequent posters (preventing stalls in the plot) while allowing more occasional (and potentially even once-off) posters.

A capital idea!
Again, I agree with Sparks.
Also, sorry for sort-of hijacking the thread :P

I could be interested in this and my schedule is currently wide open. How time will permit once I get a new job though is another story that cannot be predicted...
Speaking of Life and Death though, I believe (Correct me if I'm wrong Thom) that it's still taking on newcomers if anyone cares to join in. We could use the new blood :P

Speaking of L&D I'm trying to get something together, you still up for a two on two match? I've got a bit of time on my hands and well... need to flex my creative might outside of my D&D campaigns... New comers are always welcome, but I expect some decent bios. Nothing crazy or outrageous to start. In other words, there's only one Kai Allard out there and it's not you.

Ah... you know me so well. B) I do have to say that I'd have a hard time playing a DCMS character, though a merc would allow me a bit of... creative wiggle room.

I am of course, but I think I'd set Jack up so he's about to get his little present for Taysider and then fight a heavy match in Steel Lady?

What sort of RP style are we talking about? I'm open to the idea, but it depends on the particulars (eg: Each post is expected to be 1-2 sentences, 3-4 paragraphs, stand alone short-story).

Yeah I was thinking about D (Damn that sounded wrong...) mounting up in that Catapult and going for a stroll with your Jaeger. We should work out the details via Skype, Failbook, or the OOC page though, this isn't really the proper place for it.

In a RP setting, it all depends really. I mean what is your character doing? Is he waking up and just going through his normal routine? Stretching, getting out of bed, eating breakfast, brushing his teeth, getting cleaned up/dress/shaving? That would get boring really quick, but if you threw in his thoughts about what's happening elsewhere or later on in the day it could be and interesting read.

How much detail you throw in could greatly affect the length of the post. Your character is he getting up hella early because he's a cadet at NAMA (New Avalon Military Academy) and wants to look his best for graduation and impress various unit commanders? As a general rule the more Who, what, why, how, and whens you throw out there the longer things will get. Or is he being called forth to stand as witness in a court martial on a fellow cadet charged with murder/r@pe?

You could do a post for the whole day, but I'd spare all the tiny details that don't matter, unless they'll play in later down the line.

In a combat post with multiple characters engaging multiple enemies, i.e. a lance on lance situation, you'd do some quick actions such as launching two 15 racks of LRMS at the enemy Enforcer engaging your comrade's Bushwhacker and moving to cover while the racks reload. This gives the rest of the players time to join in with actions, such as the Bushwhacker pilot taking a hit from the Enforcer's AC10 and countering with his own.

But if you are in a situation where you are fighting a grand melee in one of the Solaris Under card matches you'd be doing some considerable amount of writing. I believe that when I did that with DeMarkus in L&D, it was something like four or five postings, pre-fight, early fight, late fight, and post fight. He was the only character present for that so I ended up grinding it out as it were so that took awhile, but was a half a$$ decent read.

I hope some of that rambling helps.
