Sounds like a teribad idea. The strong get stronger... Salvage doesn't really work in this game... don't like the sound of this game moving towards Diablo 3.
Salvage has always been a part of the BT universe.
A Salvage point system would not be any different than the higher C-bill rewards that winning teams already get. Since winning a match already rewards those players with more C-bills, it would seem that the strong already get stronger.
The main difference would be that there would be no real way to "farm" Salvage points. DCing would reduce your team's chance for victory.
It would also encourage clean kills over raw damage. Raw damage would still give higher C-bill rewards, but less in Salvage points (assuming destroyed components).
Furthermore, it is not dependent on luck or loot tables. Salvage points would "represent" salvaged capacitors, armor, ammo, actuators, weapons bins, etc., that could be "traded" for ammo, weapons, and components. If you accumulated enough salvage, you might even be able to trade it for a stripped down Mech' chassis.
IF mixtech is ever allowed in the game, it could serve as the ONLY WAY for Inner Sphere pilots to get their hands on clan tech. (Which, in canon, was the ONLY way regular pilots would ever get their hands on that equipment) This would eliminate I.S. players from being able to buy clan tech with C-bills. (Therefore rewarding PLAY over PAY)
I confess that I am not familiar with Diablo 3, so I cannot debate those merits/drawbacks. Like many others, I am only here because of the Battletech universe.
