Right now you'd need to spot 80 mechs with UAV in order to break even. Since no team currently has 80 mechs, even the best-used UAV runs the pilot at a deficit.
I think that if you spot 12 mechs with a UAV, you should make about 60k. This would be 5k cbills per spot, and spotting 8 mechs with the UAV would be the break-even point.
This would help light pilots, who are best-suited to placing UAVs advantageously, make up for the fact that they get low earnings from damage, component destruction, and kills.

Agreed.
There are far too many support behaviors that are either anemically rewarded or ignored outright by the game. It'd do wonders for role warfare if behaviors other than simple combat actually got rewards commensurate to their impact on the battlefield.

Much of the current class balance could be fixed by proper rewards including the one OP suggested. More XP/C-Bills for lights who e.g. are the first to spot an enemy mech.
However, even simple suggestions like these, which do not require programming time (=money) seem to fall on deaf ears...

PGI thinks role warfare is making every mech carry the same modules, so of course they won't tailor rewards to promote role warfare

Um....you do know that right now, until they nerf it, you can actually target your UAV with an arty or airstrike and it'll hit directly under the UAV, right?
I mean...I thought this was common knowledge. I just figured that everyone that was whining about the whole arty/air strike thing simply didn't realize the other team was using the UAV up in the air to target the strike.

same thing with targeting the lava under the catwalks in Terra Therma
