A lot depends on size and hitboxes. After all, the BJ-1 is a slow 45 tonners and it has it's niche, and users who do well in it.
That said, I think it will be a second or third tier Medium in the main queues, because of it's speed and armor loadout, and without serious hardpoint inflation, the missiles will be an afterthought. But it should make for a very good Stock Mech .

Well...BJs are half decent. They are also reasonably sized. That's what's going to make or break the Vindicator.
BJ has high mounted hardpoints with decent hitboxes and a slim profile. Vindicator has potential for that...but we haven't seen it yet.
Hardpoints in the Vindy seem pretty lacking, but they all have JJs. Speed is acceptable at 93, but certainly not fast. I don't expect them to replace my BJs 1 or 1X.

and 2 energy hardpoints will be knuckle draggers, and the third, in the head.

probably true, but it will own BJs in SMM. Because, TOTALLY contrary to TT, the Vindi will actually be more heat efficient than the BJ, lol.

I agree with what most people have said. How good the vindi is relies pretty heavily on how it looks. If its short and narrow, it could be a decent mech. If not, well... the awesome and dragon might get some company.

1. Hitboxes
2. Hardpoints, obviously a lot of missile hardpoints can make a nice brawling medium similar to the griffin 3m with it's quad 6's, but on a more agile scale.
3. The AA variant could be really welcome giving high speed and jumpjets something that's been needed as a 45 ton class mech.
4. Last but not least is the potential for ECM.

But seriously it'll be a good mech that you'd get if you like the chassis not if you're a min-max player.

It's not about weight, it's about tonnage vs power vs agility.
In a pug world, sure a Shadowhawk is better...but in a pug world taking anything less than something with the most weapons and armor is the name of the game.
However in league play where tonnage limits are enforced the vindicator can bring some much needed versatility at 45 tons.
