A friend of mine recently decided to try out mwo.
That made me thinking.
To get a player hooked, the game have to give him a good first impression.

imagine now my friend, completely new to the game.
If we go and play togheter in the group queue, my elo will end dragging him in a higher player tier with more seasoned player, lacking any sort of battle experience and with a mech with no "skill" or module.
That would be a harsh challenge, too harsh in my opinion.

If he go solo, he would be in a more confortable position but I won't be able to give him any immediate advice.

it would be rough for him, and more likely ruin his first impression of the game.

So here some idea.
  • An in game training mode is implemented. like a regular game but only trial mech allowed.
  • The new player get a free premium day so he and a veteran can spar in a custom game, lowering the needed premium account to just one.
  • A "spectate" option is introuduced, newb drop in solo pug, veteran click the spectate button, the veteran now see on his screen what the new player does, and can use the in game chat to give advice. It could even work the other way around but a new player most likely won t find that fun.

what do you think of this topic, do you have other idea?
