Not sure what to go with here.

I was thinking Trebuchet 3C, i could swap between fast light hunter or LRM boat.
Griffins have similar load outs, although less versatility in their LRM size per hardpoint.

Are there any glaring weaknesses to the Trebuchet that i'm missing? I find the Griffin to be quite tanky. Not sure about the treb.

Note: I would only run Trebuchet 3C in Conquest most likely if set up as light hunter..

I really like my Treb 3C personally, though I haven't tried griffons yet (I've had the treb for a long time). For LRM fun times I would probably recommend the griffon. High tube count is good, but JJs are better imo. The medium LRM boat is all about positioning for one maybe two volleys then relocate. JJs are key when doing that. The treb wins if you cant the fast SRM skirmisher.

Trebs tend to die to ST loss (they really need XL engines), and they are pretty tall, so they stick out over cover.

I have 4 Trebuchets and all 3 Griffins, so I have plenty of experience with both.

The TBTs are some of my favorite mechs. However, the 3C variant is a niche variant, 390 engine quirk. The large engine cap will allow it to keep up with most lights, but lacks the versatility of the JJ equipped models. My favorite is the 7M. I feel it has the best hard point allocation of any of the TBT variants and my stats reflect that. Something else to note, is when the TBT-LG was released, all of the TBT variants got a facelift that affected tube count. With one exception, the 7K right arm, all Missile hard points are 20 tubes. I run almost all of my TBT with a 300XL engine. You get 106 kph out of them with speed tweak. I have been told, but haven't confirmed, the height was reduced on the TBT with the previously mentioned face lift. Either way, I don't find the height to be a disadvantage whatsoever.

The Griffins are hard point concentrated to the right side. Use the left arm as a shield like on a CN9. The GRFs are 55 ton mechs and require a larger engine to get the same speed as you would in a TBT. I usually run a 320 or 325XL in them. All of the GRF variants have JJ. Being 55 ton also allows them to carry a little more armor than the TBT.

Between the 2, I prefer the TBT.

YMMV,

Jody

I agree with Jody! I also have all of them and I think Griffin works better as Sniper with double PPC and some LRMs. The TBT plays more like a light mech if you put a large enough engine into it and it has an advangtage in doing this because of the smaller side area.

Not sure about Griffins but they cant go 140KPH like the 3C can, so go for the #c its just about the most fun this game has to offer. Make sure you fill all the weapon hardpoints because you will lose an arm or 2 most games. My personal 3C is 4 MLs and 2 streaks XL390. Or if you realy want BAP use the XL 375-380, not sure which one it is but one of them is 1.5 tons lighter than the 390XL. Crazy good times in a 50 toner at 140KPH.

If you are going above 100kph, 50 tons mech can carry more weight with max armor.
If you are going 90ish kph and below, 55 tons mech can carry more weight with max armor.

One of the most special thing about griffon is its torso twist degrees. It can literally run forward and shoot things behind its back once 2x basic unlock. It also is one of the best shield arm user in the game, which would allow you to live alot longer than medium normally should while operating at maximum firepower, which is extremely crucial for a medium mech due to how fragile medium normally are. A mech with weapon on both arms like TBT can shield arm, but would have reduced firepower much more rapidly. Due to weapon being on 1 side, it is alot safer to do peekaboo, as you don't have to come out to far to unleash all firepower.

TBT though, have so many variants, it would be much cheaper to experiment with builds than griffon's 3 very similar variants. If you stay in the back line and act as support, the shield arm negative won't come into play often enough for you to worry about.

Griffin is the better missile user, due to missile hard point all on the same area, which result in more compact srm or lrm.

In my opnion, it is better to get a few 45 ton mechs and 55 ton mechs in the long run, and skip the 50 tons. 50 tons mech is literally the most average mech in game (not best at any build, but can have many different builds), meant for running experiments.
