I for one get really frustrated dropping in a map like Alpine Peaks with a mid-short range build or an energy heavy build on Terra Therma.
One solution would be to select an overall class of mech or 2-3 mechs in that class and then select a specific mech once the map is revealed.
If the user times out they would just get a random mech out of the ones they selected or they could designate a default.

BUMP.
Now we have drop decks in CW. No reason not to do the same thing in regular drops. Given the current 3-3-3-3 model just select a weight class (L, M, H, A) and 1-4 mechs within that weight class for your drop deck. Once you know what map you're on select a mech for that drop.
Optionally have 2-3 loadouts for a certain mech saved (and equipment stocked) so you can tweak a bit depending on the map. I think this would make for a lot less general frustration and would allow some specialty builds to shine a bit more.
