Merc units by definition do not have a set faction, even though they could just take contracts from that faction. Units that are actually 'part of a house' aka Faction Units were not part of the original CW plan (somehow), and have not been fully fleshed out yet.

I haven't seen anything regarding contracts either. Well other than a powerpoint they showed off at "launcH"

I am sure when they have something to show towards that regard they will announce it. Better not to jump the gun.

dude just stop man, lol

There's no "jump the gun" when it comes to CW. They better have a pretty solid idea on where they're going with that since it's supposed to be out no later than dec. 26th unless they play on blowing another deadline on it. It's time they stopped with all the hush hush crap.

Technically Mercs belong to the Mercs faction. They have mentioned creating the "Dagger Star" faction for clan players who do not want to be part of one of the established Clan factions so you would have the Mercs, Lone Wolf, and Dagger Star factions in addition to each of the House//Clan factions.

In regards to contracts I could see something like the following working:

Clan/House Unit - Can only see unit contracts for their faction.

Clan/House Loyalist - Can only see individual contracts for their faction.

Merc Unit - Can see unit contracts for all IS factions.

Lone Wolf - Can see individual contracts for all IS factions.

Dagger Star Unit - Can see unit contracts for all Clan factions.

Dagger Star Loyalist - Can see individual contracts for all Clan factions.

The quality of the contracts would be determined by the loyalty rank of the unit or individual. I would also assume that you can change the faction for a unit so it would be possible to switch from being a House unit to a Merc or even swap to a different faction.

To be clear this is all speculation on my part and I have no idea on what they are actually doing.

I am talking about leaking info too early. you know, if they show us a sneak peak and then change something however small might not been looked kindly upon.

whats with that attitude bro :) :P

I would also like to know if you can swap between factions. When I want to play my clan mechs, do I have to quit the IS faction or can I join 2 at a time?

I have been watching Blood Wolf's posts the last few months and he has gotta' be trolling everyone .No one could be that oblivious to the facts of reality and be allowed to walk the Streets and not be Committed to an Asylum :)

Neg, it would be a generic Clan tag for those who wish to represent a Clan not among the invading four.

Anyway, according to Niko, a post to clear the confusion is coming.

From what was in the 26 minute presentation, Faction Units are simply "units" or guilds within an actual faction but that was the extent in which they were explained. This is not to be confused with the Canon faction units, which are 'units' that you can earn your way into...

such as the 1st Capellan Defense Force.

This is what was explained from the beginning.

What CyclonerM said and here is the post from Russ the explains it:

Quote

Another bonus I can offer is that we have heard the excellent suggestion of using the "Dagger Star" graphic for use as a general clan tag for those wanting to represent one of the other Clans until they can join the invasion. As to timing of the Dagger Star icon, that may have a dependency with the game client since it’s a new clan faction. I don’t have all the answers on this yet but wanted to let you know that yes we will be adding that as an option in the relatively near future
