So i will just go with this instead..
Just buy the Cataphract 3D, It has an XL-280 engine which can be used in so many mechs it is not even funny, including, catapults, thunderbolts, jagers, and a number of other great mechs.. By far the best value and reason to try any heavy by 10 fold. Even if you hate it you have close to 5m C-bill engine in your garage that can and will be used in any of 100 builds, most likely 1000's of builds when ya think about it..
Catapults are your missile based rides for the most part
the K2 is the odd duck, with energy and a pair of balisitic slots, a pair of AC's and PPC's and this mech is pretty fun.
The Jester is a 4P on steroids, It is a Laser boat that i can love.. (unlike the 4p, which is my least favorite HBK) Like you HBK's were my first medium to master, and then i swapped to heavies, which These where my first.. the catapult, then Cataphract's and lastly thunder bolts. My first 100 matches were in a trial dragon with a gauss and 2LL's of all things, and i loved the mech which i bought, but never got 2 more to master it as i moved on to mediums for my first to master. The dragon is much more of a medium, and you need to play it like one, but it is a fun mech never the less
I also own a jager 6DD but i never played it, so i won't comment on if you should buy one, for me i just wanted the XL-260 at the time. I also have a stalker and atlas that i have very little experience with. So i won't give any advice on the assaults, other than, they sure are Slow in comparison to the mediums and heavies i have enjoyed) so i would say, go with the heavies as your next step.. going assault might be to far removed from the game play styles you have learned so far.
Cataphracts are AC+laser powered, and the thunder bolts are most HBK like, all have at least one version with JJ's.
Thunder bolts play most like an the other HBK's, One version you can mount 5ML's and a bunch of other weapons, so it does a pretty kick arse HBK impression. and My favorite plays like a big HBK with JJ's.. fun, fun, fun!
Other mechs i own and have tried a bit and want to get to master are Dragons, cicada, ravens, Centurions are all on the fun mechs list.. Not that you asked about the lighter stuff, but maybe down the road you will want too.
Good luck choosing! Cataphract 3D, trust me.. best first heavy bar none... (and only best by far because of the engine it comes with, the rest It is just a solid Heavy)
