Otherwise, you can just use it to practice your urban combat. ANANSI
Gauss is...somewhat subpar for Urban Defense. Higher DPS, faster ROF and still nice chunks of damage with the AC10. RoF and lack of charge mechanic are pretty useful in Urban combat, for snap shots.

it is actually really good at the mobile narc battery role..... which would be less praising for faint damns if it wasn't an pay to play mech.
Still, like most heroes, it's not horrible, but it sure ain't an Ember, Ilya, Dragonslayer, etc, either.

No one can really give you a yes or no answer, though. How about this, if you want it, and the cost isn't high enough for you to lament "losing" the money, then buy it.

True. But Gauss has high accuracy, great range for the off chance it's needed, and should in theory be able to punch through cover, where AC's would blow up cover. Both features situationally useful.
I'd rather a UAC5 myself, but they're guaranteed to jam with my trigger finger.

High accuracy is of limited use, at least this type of accuracy, for urban combat. Tis a reason troops don't deploy with 50 cal sniper rifles for urban combat. Because of the charge mechanism, the accuracy of a Gauss actually suffers horribly in the split second, knife fighting conditions of urban combat.
Essentially, you gotta ask, is it an Urban Fighter, Sniper, or are you trying to make it all purpose? Because if it's for Urban Fighting, you just accept it's limitations for open field combat.
In TT, of course, one could just slap on an LB-X and swap ammo types as needed.... but in MWO, we don't get to do that (sadly). And AC10 is accurate to reasonable range in open combat, but much better suited for CQB.
Course, it's your mech, but I'm just tossing that out there.

Why do you say this though? an srm 6 in the torso is a great took for a spider
You wanted a yes/no.
From my POV, it's not enough payload and it's all short range. Past 200M all you have is 2ML. <shrug> I'd spend CB maybe, but not MC.
EDIT: I've run this loadout on a RVN-4X. I know pretty much exactly how much firepower it's not. You can do OK with it, but it's just not special. The only time I'm afraid of an Anansi is when I see "NARC," so that's why I say "if you want to NARC, yes, otherwise, no." Again, this is for a real money mech. If it was CB, I'd have grabbed one for sure (and may yet on 50% sale, but I wouldn't pay 'full price')
