A wild turret defense game has appeared, and I almost fell off my chair when I saw it.

Sure sure, who doesn't like that mech but geez, don't be so obvious... lol.

Problem. If the mech has a 15% difference from the original then they can't sue him.

If you click on their website, you can see they are using it twice to advertise the app. There is the silver one you posted and a more reddish version also.

I sent them a quick email about it and they ensured me that the graphic artist that sold them the 3D models told them that the silver version called the "Upset Kitten" and the more powerful red version known as the "Lumbering Lupis" are completely his original designs and don't resemble anything else.

Just kidding there, but seriously, I am pretty sure it's Microsoft that still owns the rights and IGP and PGI are just leasing them. I doubt they would bother sending their expensive lawyers after some little smartphone app, unless it starts making huge profits from using those designs.

I have an Android phone so I just logged into Google Play and downloaded this game. It was free. If they aren't charging for it then they really can't get sued.

Unfortunately that's probably not right. If they don't defend their IP, someone else can use it down the road and if MS decides to raise a stink, the 2nd company can show that they knew infringements were happening elsewhere and did nothing. And it's conceivable that MS would lose the rights if they don't defend them.

It leads to a lot of silly lawsuits, but... lawyers. You know how they are.

Well...

I am not sure if PGI should sue them to get some little money to make MWO better..

..Or we should just leave this game's creators in peace? After all, he has chosen the right 'Mech eheh. Very cute :3

I am going to download it l :P

Besides, see what people have to do to create a game with some BT 'Mechs, even a free one? :\

Almost. They can't legally win, if the judge decides that yes, it is 15% different. They certainly are able to sue him, as Harmony Gold's repeated lawsuits against anything that vaguely resembles a Robotech machine demonstrates. Sometimes burying your foe in legal fees is the best defense. On the other hand, failing to challenge can be used as a claim of tolerance, and shows the other predators IP companies that you are weak and deserve killing.

:(
