The top of the map is nearly impossible to shoot down because of them, and don't even try to shoot someone running around in the pillars.

Seriously, there are more graphical, mesh, and just design faults in this game than I can count...

It's not just manifold. Frozen city, Canyon, Rivercity, Forest Colony..... Pretty much the only maps that only have invisible walls are the hot ones which everyone hates. Talk about irony.

But clearly, the community cannot contribute to the map pool because PGI needs to upkeep such high quality content...!

Yeah, because we ALL KNOW that not a single memberr of the community would ever dare to make a map that draws off another franchise's IP. Because that would never happen.
Seriously, PGI would havve to ensure than any map/skin that gets incorporated into the game is completely devoid of IP infringements, which is one reason we can't "make our own Mechs." PGI can't be caught with Macross or Armored Core content in their game.
They don't have a computer program that can magically cross-reference Community-created content against all known SciFi IP.

Or just have maps that are tested first, then only use basic crysis default assets and MW:O's?

It's not like community maps are all golden, and it's not like it doesn't take time on PGI's end to test maps. The volume they'd end up with might actually make map development slow down as they get flooded with maps.

Tourmaline has issues too, and that's hot. I only hate Mordor though.
