Nope. Never have.

Getting an extra 4-6 meters out of my guns really doesn't strike me as a 4 million c-bill purchase idea. On the flip side, I'd gladly sacrifice those 4-6 meters in order to have the heat reduced or damage output increased.

I will say that I definitely agree that the cbill cost is way too high. It needs to be 2 million or less before it's really worth it.

I use the SRM 4 Range 2 and SRM 6 Range 2. The 12 meters doesn't seems like much, but when I'm charging a target in an SRM boat, being able to dump a salvo that two or three steps early can be the difference between knocking off a Dire Wolf's arm or taking an alpha strike to the face when he turns toward me

On mechs that run cool, yes. AMS, NARC and MG anywhere they are applicable.

Ones I've used:

AMS Range and Overload: On a mech with 2+ AMS hardpoints = goodbye missiles!
NARC: Definitely helps
Machine Run Range: Sure, why not. Small effect but no drawbacks really.
Medium Laser Range: Sure, why not, my heat is already manageable anyway.
LB10X Range: Much like the MG, sure, why not. Certainly doesn't HURT to use it on such a short range weapon.

I'd imagine the AC Modules (being that AC's themselves generate much less heat than lasers) are kind of worth it.

But then any time you're at 270m or less you're generating extra heat, whereas the ONLY time you get a benefit is between 271 and 282m. Hard seems worth 6 million CBills to me.

Edit: Also, I would bet that if you could graph the range of your shots you would find that 10% or less are actually within that 271-282m zone.

I use the AMS modules since presumably they help AMS performance though there are no numbers on what effect they actually have (I mean in terms of additional missiles shot down ... the numbers are on the module description but what the impact actually is hasn't bee tested ... e.g. does it stop one extra missile? or 5?) . I would also probably use the NARC module on NARC mechs since it actually seems to have a useful effect without a dark side.

Every other weapon module in the game ...
1) Costs too many cbills (millions for each one)
2) Costs gxp (GXP is hard to come by unless you swap regular XP using MC).
3) Only increase range slightly for an equal increase in heat.

2% range bonus ... 2% heat penalty ... on EVERY shot. Most builds I have except pure ballistics without ghost heat will have heat issues sometime. The added range benefit distance can be covered by every mech in the game in a fraction of a second. The heat penalty remains at all ranges. Basically, it is a situational trade off that can never really be justified except ...

1) You have so many cbills it doesn't matter
2) You have so much gxp it doesn't matter
3) The build is pure ballistic that is fired without ghost heat so that a heat penalty doesn't make any difference.

So ... yes the weapon mods in my opinion are generally useless as they currently stand :)

I haven't purchased any weapon modules I don't feel the price is worth the cost, especially considering any possible benefit is overshadowed with a hefty penalty.

Even the free AMS module i received is not worth the effort of moving it around. And definitely not worth the c-bills to buy more.

I used the SPLaser one when I was running my "Party back".

Yea it didn't really help. The extra range is tiny and the extra heat makes it seem like a penalty more than an aid.

Overall it isn't worth it...at least for lasers.

Waste of GXP. Might throw a machine gun module on my phoenix locust at some point.
