Map creation for MWO require resources from various teams of the production staff. Map production inherently puts other projects on hold and vice versa.

~stuff~

Well for me maps are one of the most core stuff about a game - I mean... you can't imagine one without them right?
Even if you're right they're doing it wrong, cause it must never, ever, ever, EVER take that much time and "resources" to build up a core element where you have waaaaay easier and way faster ways to do the pretty much same.
Plenty of examples - as the others noted.
And besides - try to wear my shoes for a moment - I've played ~10 000 matches - divide that number to the number of maps we currently have(keep in mind though - when I started playing there were even THAT many maps or/and "game modes").
How do you think the people like me feel?
That *MUCH* maps for two years?
You for real?
And prolly the most of their money banks are ironically people like me - the ones that are playing the game for a looooong time.
It's boring. It's needed. IT IS REALLY FRIGGIN IMPORTANT.
Optimize the process, involve the communiti in it, whatever - I don't care - PGI MUST find a way to resolve those bulls instead of giving excuses why it havent happened yet.
Community can help - we've been witnessing this sheet for the last, how many - 10? years?
It's needed.
That's that.

For PGI and concerning maps, the devil is in the details. I'm very much a PGI white knight but they do need to take note and figure out how to put maps on an assembly line. $250k per map is not sustainable and there's something very wrong with the process.

The videos on page 1 make me sad.

Especially since you -can- monetize maps without separating your playerbase.

The keyword is events. We already know paid preview works. So...

Make 3 maps. Create some fluff about a famous battle. (Edo Bay, Tukayyid etc.) Introduce one map a week. Hand out forum badges to people participating. Let them and their units shape the course of the famous battle. Mention them in your AAR.
Sell the tickets.

Put them in the regular rotation afterwards. Players are happy. Players pay. PGI is happy.

It is not that difficult. But it requries the guts to try something else than this stupid browsergame/appstore business model.
