I just got thinking about this in another thread and realized there is yet another unaccounted for factor when people are looking at IS vs Clan balance.

When you look at IS mechs, you will typically fine that about 75% of the variants are very substandard due to hard point configurations. Basically they are junk. This leaves about 25% that are actually at least average and some that are down right good.

Clan mechs on the other hand can can mix and match hard points which means that there is not really such as thing as a substandard variant. Sure some aren't as good as others (Summoner for example) but with the mixing and matching there is no such thing as a junk variant.

Then consider that in any IS vs Clan match up, at least some of those IS players are going to be working on mastering their IS chassis which means they are forced to play in a Junk variant or two to get there.

Basically I guess what I am saying is that in an IS vs Clan match up, your not likely going to always have the best IS mechs going up against the best Clan mechs because every Clan mech is runnings its best builds and configs vs many IS mechs being stuck with suboptimal builds.

(Note: build skill does come into play but lets face it, it is hard to totally screw up a Clan mech where as alot of IS mechs can't be built good no matter what you do).

Anyway, I am not claiming Clans are OP or not, I am just discussing another factor to consider when discussing IS vs Clan balance.

And the difference between good IS variants and poor ones is typically in the neighborhood of abgood build vs. a garbage build anyways.

This difference may matter at the high end where everyone optimizes their build, but won't elsewhere... And even then, only when they're grinding crap variants. (Which actually applies to many Clan mechs as well, though to an lesser degree)

Not all clan CT's are created equal.
