Any Way Of Getting The New Mechs?

It has been a while since i played... So is there any way to get the new mechs with ingame credits or MC? Or has mechwarrior become a pay to win game with the gold packs?

Ugh. Alright, thanks. Still makes me wonder why they did that. So basically no other way but waiting or paying even though you have 15,000 mc ingame... What a slap in the face.

Meh. It's the same as the Founder program really, you pay, you get access. If you don't want to pay, you wait.

There is some VERY serious forum QQ regarding P2W and the deep and abiding unfairness of giving early access to people who pay for things.

In your case I see your point, clearly you've invested in the game, but you will get access before the great unwashed can come in and buy things with . Damn commoners. :ph34r:

At least with the founder program people could try to get the exact same mechs as other founders (bar the skin/extra credits boost) with credits from the get go. But you're right, I guess there's still early access with .

The idea is to get money out of people's hands. THey offered incentives to sign up early (I almost threw $30 at the base package for the bonus incentives. If you did that back in Feb, you'd have gotten several interesting things).

Also, you still can buy the package for $, just without the preorder extras.

Generally, how the non-preorder public is getting the content is how it usually arrives, in pieces. In this case, we just happen to know the schedule and have the opertunity to skip it with hard cash (which, btw, is likely a better deal than MC any of the Heavies or Assaults).

Me? I'm content to wait on the CBill releases, given I need to earn them, and I'm not 100% sure I'll even be able to play them in CW.

The phoenix mechs took just as long to be released for cbills, except there were fewer of them. The delay is really about the same.

The other point is that those who did pay get more exclusive access for longer, which is supposed to make their investment more enticing. No one would have paid $30 for a kit fox if they released right away. Conversely, the timberwolf is so popular, it makes sense to make it take longer to get for free.

We can disagree with their methods but at the end of the day, it looks like the Clan packages were a huge sucess. Also, they didn't intend for them to be overpowered, but it's hard to design clan tech without making it superior.

:ph34r: they've managed to avoid P2W like the plague. Case in point, the Hero chassis tend to have borked hardpoints and stock loadouts compared to their C-Bill brethren. (With a few notable exceptions, not trying to open a can of worms or anything).

(and not that I'm complaining overmuch about the Hero's, since I own all but five of em. ;) )

The only thing that made the clan pack seem P2W is that several of the chassis... well, two of the chassis therein wound up being sooo much better than everything else. Yeeh, I'm looking at you SCR and TBR.
But how "good" a new chassis is tends to be a crap shoot. The product of multiple variables including hitbox to physical model tuning, health of the netcode, current meta, current meta..... current,

yeah, mostly hitboxes and meta determined which chassis variant makes everyone cry. :wacko:

EDIT; Oh, uhrm... y'know, after actually reading the entire thread it hit me that I just managed to ramble and rant about something that no one else was actually talking about.

EDIT EDIT: To pull this someone onto the gist of the topic... if you do elect to pick up some clan mechs with cash, I'd vote heavily in favor of the Timberwolf and Stormcrow, or Mad Cat and Ryoken, depending on which way your wind sock dangles.

The capabilities are not. Phoenix mechs are on par with other IS mechs. The Clan mechs other than slow lights are just silly strong.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Daishi, Uller-w and the Mad Cat were the ones i really liked as a huge noob in MW4. Funnily enough the first time i tried them online in that game was when i got absolutely wrecked by a shadowcat. The catapult and mad cat still are mechs that are pretty iconic to mechwarrior for me.

PGI has a habit of doing this when they need to get ahead of things. They'll crunch out the mechs when they need to have the artists free and release them slowly (meaning far less work for the artists on mechs and has them free for other things like new maps or community warfare for example. They have two new maps that they're doing the artistic touches on right now).

Since they have two artists groups their plan is to release two mechs at a time (one clan, one IS), but need leeway times for other projects hence the slow release schedule.

Personally i didn't see many novas and summoners do as well as the rest. It's more of 4 strong and 4...well...

Get more IS mechs with AC/20s.
Clans won't have a chance.

The issue currently isn't actually Clan mechs, but the combination of clan's native ranges + targeting computer enhancing ranges + range modules (c'mon even I foresaw this stupidity).

Clan mechs without modules or ranges are inherently inferior or balanced. Once you get in close range the Clan mech is screwed.

Trouble is... enhancing their range even more than canon (which is already enhanced quite a bit beyond canon just due to PGI's meddling) with targeting computers and modules is making it nearly impossible to get close.

There are two really strong Clan mechs, 1 kinda strong but situational, and the rest are pretty fair in and of themselves.

No, I mean the mechs. Even the bad Clan lights are vastly superior to the Trollmando and the Lolcust. The "weak" Nova eats any 50 ton IS medium for lunch. It goes on like that.

How did I miss out on an opportunity when I wouldn't have bought the gold/clan packs in the first place? I did see them selling the packs. I would've rather used my MC to get the mechs but I suppose wanting to use MC which i bought with my money rather than .... one of the gold packs with money... means I am entitled? Nah dude, just get down off that high horse so we can have a normal chat.
