There is already a long long old thread especially for the catapult side of this discussion people. If it is still open.

What was done to the Catapults was, and remains, an abomination.

If we're supposed to get 20 tube launcher sized ears, there's no reason to tack on larger unless you have weapons with MORE than 20 total tubes needed.

Even then, I feel they should have kept the wave fire. What's there now is just bad, whoever thought it was good should feel bad, and the artist in charge should feel worse.

I'm honestly scared what they'll do to the Centurion and Cataphract when they bother to "upgrade" them visually.

The idea of having the 'mech models reflect what weaponry they're carrying is sound.

The implementation isn't.

The graphics of the original MWO are now lostech. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

But to answer the OP: Yes, it's worth it. I do like the ability to see what other mechs are equipped with, without checking the HUD. Especially since I can't target friendly mechs, like in.... oh, most similar games since Wing Commander and Tie Fighter in the early 1990's.

There are a lot of fugly mistakes, but I think it's preferable to what we had before, for the most part. I just wish they weren't so god damned lazy about proportions.

+100

We appreciate the effort. We loathe the results (on the Catapult).

And personally, I dread what they might do to my beloved Commandos and Centurions once they get around to them.

This reminds me...

Am I the only one who thinks black looks like crap on mechs in this game? Most colors seem ok, but black is oddly glossy and very inconsistent on most of the mech surfaces. It almost looks like the paint was too thin and the metal is showing through on seams and edges.

I'd like to use black more if it didn't looks so darn bad and ugly.

I'd like to see PGI re-do black.

Posted Image

Just look at the black legs on this mech (that somone posted earlier in the forum). Looks terrible.

P.S. I get that the IS mechs are to look old and worn, and other colors represent it well, but black just seems...wrong.

Well, that is part of the trade-off of having fully-featured customization with the models representing what is actually equipped. The alternative is what the Centurion and Cataphract currently enjoy:

2 PPCs, UAC5:

4 Small Lasers, 2 Machine Guns:

3 Flamers, 1 UAC5, 1 AC20:
Posted Image

1 Long-Tom battery (head-mounted), 3 locusts mounted on each arm:
Posted Image

1 Nuclear-equipped walking battletank (Snaaaaaaake!!):

But yeah. Those LRM-boat Catapults look ugly as sin.

If you shave off a point of head armour you can fit four Locusts on the right arm

I don't think anyone objects to 'mechs actually showing what weapons they have, it's just that PGI took the easy way out by reusing the same piece of kit for every 'mech and just scaling them to "fit" the different 'mechs. Then they also made some very... disturbing choices with regards to e.g. the Catapult ears and the Hunchies "hunch".

I mean, the JagerMech's arms look fine no matter what you put in there, but who the hell signed off on the three ballistic slots in the Hunchie's RT being over-under mounts? With the lowest one actually below the hunch? And for the one responsible for the horrible, horrible under-slung VCRs for the Catapult: Shame on you. Shame.

If I may, allow me to help them with their job advertisement status:

1 ) The cost of living in Canada is far less than it is 30 minutes away from they are, as long as you have a valid passport. Just drive for half an hour and every fast-food resturaunt is half-off what it is, other than "Jacque's Road Kill."

2 ) Strong beer is cheap. By "Strong," I mean "skunky" in a lot of terminologies. Personally, I'm a fan of Canadian beer. Think "Heineken" and you'll be on the right path. Moosehead and Molson's are great. Stay away from LaBatt's..it's Canunk. Generally speaking, everyone hates the French, and French-Canadian isn't any better.

3 ) Chicks are easy. More specifically, Canadian chicks are easy. If you have even the faintest taint of an accent that is different than theirs, they go crazy for you.....even more so than American chicks go crazy for an Australian/British accent. Take that for what it's worth, but from an ugly...hideously ugly...American dude, I'm here to tell you that I've never failed to get "lucky" when Canadian chicks are concerned.

4 ) If you're even mildly "productive," you simply cannot fail as far as PGI is concerned. Based on the prior performance of this company, if you show up on time and schedule all of your time off, you're in line to take Russ or Paul's job within 6 months of employment. And....here's the best part...you don't actually have to do anything as long as you can either blame your incompetence on someone else or simply tell them that you're "working on it" at staff meetings (that's a stretch, though, I don't really think they have "staff meetings." If they did and they had anyone in charge that had a clue, there would be a LOT more job openings. Not as if they could fill them).

5 ) Probably the most important...you have to relocate to Canada. If you're fond of paved roads, indoor plumbing or the ability to buy underwear in your size without having to drive 45 minutes to the nearest Wal-Mart, then you're screwed. If you're not, then I suggest you get that full frontal lobotomy you were considering and applying for that CEO position at PGI. We could hardly do worse than to have you at the helm.

As a Canadian, I'd like to thank you for pointing out what a total douche you are with your inane comments that unfortunately contribute to the "Ugly American" persona we all know so well. My American friends are nothing like you, but they still have to live with the reputation for ignorance you perpetuate.

As for "getting lucky" with Canadian girls it's true, we have desperate ones up here too as you so ably point out.

OH.....I will give you credit for saying "Don't drink Labbatts" though.

Honestly, it's not that bad...some things might look a bit odd, but what do you expect when putting a MG where a snub nose artillery piece was made to go. Some of the new models are flat and void of textures...like the missile pod on the Centurion's chest....that is certainly blech!

I don't have a problem with gun barrels being dark, matte metals...that seems to make sense to me.

All in all, it's a good starting point that I'm sure will be fleshed out done more at a later date...but for now, it's improvement.

I'm not sure if the Stalker has its done (I think the Misery's visual hardpoint change is there) for the missile racks and energy weapons.

The Raven's "done" since the Huginn.

Actually the arm lasers of the 3l look all the same, all the energy weapons even ppcs have the same skin. Also i think the missile arm only has one hole (probably for the use of narcs)
