Um, teamwork is essential in this game.
Still I sometimes find in pug matches only where that one pilot (whom probably thinks he the best in the world) goes at it alone. And lo and behold - is the first to die.
Does PGI in it's tutorials, stress that teamwork and focus fire is key to survival and winning in this game?

Depends, You have the little to no team work of PUGs with no unifying Comms or Large group Que where several small groups CAN form a 12 man team that do not share Comms between groups. So to me the answer is... No. PGI does not Support team work.

Haha, so true.
But you forgot to mention the part where that guy then calls his team full of idiots, then, he rage quit the match.

So many things in MWO actually don't promote teamwork... this includes ECM.
Often times, there's a player in an ECM Light... usually tries to troll others by sniping... oftentimes failing to do that and get killed immediately after engaging the enemy.
Heck, there are actually people that don't use 'R'.... whether it is intentional (because they hate LRMs for whatever reason) or unintentional (tutorials didn't teach them).
So, technically you are on an island regarding this.

PGI does in no way promote team work. No incenties for team play or team victories is given in game.
The tutorial is laghable at best s new players are still left alone on the most part.

Players wont use Teamwork. Thats the difference between groups and pure PuGs. As an example, on Alpine last night, i called that we should use i7 (Starting on the south side) to come up behind them and catch them in the open since they'd be moving on the hill everyone normally takes.
As i move that way, i explain my reasoning. im ignored. I get to my position, purposefully give away my location, then when SIX of the enemy team come charging after me, including all their Assaults, i lure them down the moutain so they cant get back up, and call for teh team to make a push along H9 since they were camped up there.
And nothing. All 11 friendlies continue to camp the top of the ridge doing nothing, despite heavily outnumbering the enemy. They proceeded to do nothing at all for the next 4 minutes while the enemy team regrouped, pushed up and won.
Its days like that i hate PuGs.

Sometimes. It depends a lot on the individuals in the game. Mostly people just form firing lines, often perfectly content to give up height and range advantage and exchange peek-a-boo shots for a few minutes, until one side takes enough casualties to be rushed.
Sometimes plans are made, and people even attempt to follow them. Sometimes they work wonderfully. Sometimes they make your team lose faster. Sometimes that lone player you see run off has a plan, they just didn't care to share it with you.
The best executed pug plan I've ever been part of was on assault. We sacrificed lamb squad while all the other lances moved in, decimated base defences, and quickly won.
