Will it have prominent sunglasses, indicating good fortune and being on the right track, or will it look like a big box on legs, with a cannon hanging off one side?

It'll be identically size to the Blackjack most likely...
Which is identically sized to the Dragon in height. I kid you not.

Well, if they keep the recent track record with heroes, it'll probably be Pay2Lose.

Hero fans are going to be paying for the Ilya Muromets' sins forever.

You mean Dragon Slayer and Ember, right?

I know some people love machine guns and love the Ember, but really, having the extra energy hardpoints of the other variants (especially the K) with small lasers or small pulse lasers (which have no random variance in where they aim) would strip both armor and internals more quickly -- even, I suspect, inside 10m.

The Dragon Slayer came out before PGI really jumped the shark on hero mechs. I don't have the timeline of their release, but I don't remember the last time I looked at a hero announcement and didn't say, "My god, this is the weakest variant."

The Huggin I am sure you are joking about. :)

I would also point out that while the mighty Dragon Slayer has the benefit of being able to use one side as a shield (most its guns are on the right), you need to use a STD engine to take advantage of that, further losing out on the smoking remains of the Victor's agility.

The Heavy Metal, on the other hand, trades the left-side shield exchange for moving those two energy hardpoints from the right side torso to the left arm, where they can aim properly up-close and be used to peek around the left side of cover. It also doubles the number of tubes in its missile launchers -- 20 and 10 rather than 10 and 5.

So if you don't use the DS in that way, it's not that great. And I would submit that using it with a slow, STD engine is not in the spirit of the mech.

On the other hand, they just synced the PPC with the AC/10 in an effort to reduce pinpoint alphas, so I might be taking my DS for another run.

I hope it rises up and reveals the Flea clinging to its ass.

Given my recent enjoyment of them, I'm more concerned with how badly they're going to ruin the Shadowhawk hero in an effort to make it "balanced" with the other variants.
