"The last two decades have been a time of opportunity for Defiance Industries. The technological renaissance has solidified their reputation as the principle 'Mech manufacturer in the Inner Sphere. As such, new BattleMech designs have rolled off the production lines buried in the Myoo Mountains, including the Cobra and Salamander.
Brandal Gareth's abortive revolt in 3057 could have cost the company dearly. Instead, the brief conflict brought to light a number of design flaws in the company's new flagship model, the Defiance, the production of which was immediately suspended. Rather than allowing this setback to derail their plans, Defiance immediately began work on a new design, the Fafnir, intended to showcase the company's abilities. Prototypes entered service in late 3061 with full-scale production having commenced in early 3063."

The above is from page 100 of TRO 3067.
The same information is also viewable here.

The Fafnir is a new chassis for that era - with design work starting in 3057, prototypes first appearing in 3061 (the same year in which the Lyran Alliance introduced the Heavy Gauss Rifle), and mass production starting in 3063.
The first Fafnir prototypes didn't appear until 3061, so there is no way that the design would be available a decade prior to that (e.g. the early 3050s).

Perhaps you should follow your own advice, Demon Horde, and "do the research". :)

Then why was the fafnir in the first ever MW game? that game took place in 3020 something i believe well before the invasion of the clans. plus i have seen other sources that say it was an old mech design that got replaced and later revived durring the post clan invasion era. Not online sources but actual battle tech pnp books.

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Fafnir
Production year 3063.

As far as it being in the first ever MW game? Wasn't the first ever MW game on the SNES? And if I recall right, it didn't even use any actual BT mechs (though the assault mech in the game did resemble another BT Assault mech). I could be wrong though...

Anyway, it is possible that lore/cannon got changed on the Fafnir, though I don't think so. As far as I have always known, the Fafnir was always a late Clan Invasion mech to Fedcom Civil war mech.

The first pc mechwarrior game did use proper battletech mechs, only the snes had others. And it did not have the Fafnir, it wasn't even added to battletech at that point. Also the earlier two pc games did not either for the same reason. And in battletech the Fafnir is a later development, as has already been said.

Because it wasn't - the only playable 'Mechs in the original MechWarrior game were the Locust, Jenner, Phoenix Hawk, Shadow Hawk, Rifleman, Warhammer, Marauder and BattleMaster (as the game was made in 1989, before the court issue with Harmony Gold began).

I have most of the books as PDFs, and a substantial number that are hard-copies, and there is no evidence of the Fafnir being an old or revived design.
You claim that you have sources that say otherwise - then, name & present them; if they're books, give the title and page number.

IS mechs

1. Valkyrie (30 tons)

Honorable mentions

Marauder (75 tons)

Both of those are considered Unseen. As in their artwork comes from a Japanese Anime cartoon called Macross that the rights for were never actually done correctly.

So, those two are out.

There are (unpopular) reseen versions of those mechs. Even then, if PGI really wished to, I'm sure they could alter the designs enough for MWO to keep a homage to the originals, while at the same time avoiding the copyright issues... (Probably would be some of the last few mechs to be released, as they have a lot of "easier" mechs they can release sooner/easier.)

The Fafnir didn't appear until MechWarrior 4: Mercenaries in 2002 in video game land, it wasn't introduced into tabletop until 2000 long after MechWarrior 1 (1989) or even the MechWarrior 2 games (1995)

Timeline for mechwarrior 4 mercenaries was during the FedCom Civil war, a decade or so after the clan invasion.

Hope this helps:)

All I want is the Flea for now. I like playing on hard-mode, it makes me a better pilot when I do drop in something more competitive. Ever feel your skills are getting sloppy in your Embers and JR7-Fs? Drop in Locusts for awhile until you can pull similar numbers.

I would like another 20 tonner for variety and because I like having things to level up.

The Fafnir was in this game? Somehow, I don't remember that...
