Yeah, huh? Especially the "25% slower for engine size" bit.

I am not sure why we have another quad thread, but I will go with it.
Quads are very good depending on the situation. Even in the tabletop, where people are saying that you can easily flank them, all you need is a few jump jets and suddenly you can spin freely. Yay! Also, there is mule kicking, which means you can stop people from freely getting up behind you and kicking your back legs out. Obviously quads are more stable, and can automatically stand up. Also, they get a reduction in mobility, but are not as immobilized by one leg out. The main problems are the lack of critical slots and the lack of arms if turrets not implemented.

Personally, my favorite mech is the Great Turtle. I prefer the mechs that look less humanoid. Plus, as a person with terrible piloting skills I need something that can take an extreme amount of damage before I get killed.

Four legs are the most popular robot at mech warfare competitions. Among the biggest mech fans, the ones with money, there are few with a biped.

Reality is they are far more stable. Could lasso an Atlas and pull it off its feet. Hell they would fall about on the terrain in this game. They would trip up over the big rocks.

I want a centaur. A torst and arms mounted on a quad mech body

lol lol

Im guessing

Quote

The Quad 'Mech uses its "arms" for legs which gives these designs some additional stability and maneuverability (such as sidestepping, also known as lateral shift movement). The concept was much maligned for sacrificing the overall versatility of BattleMechs and the early designs, notably the Scorpion and the Goliath, proved flawed, being notoriously difficult to maintain and highly susceptible to breakdowns. It was only around the year 3060 that improved technology led to new quadrupedal 'Mech designs, although the stigma associated with the general concept still lingers. Bipedal BattleMechs remain the vastly more common 'Mech.

and where we have to wait ten years for anything other than the Goliath and Scorpion

Dear Hoplite,

You are fugly.

I always thought quads would be a lot cooler if they'd put in a "Mule Kick" physical rule for them. They could basically kick with both front/back legs and do double kick damage. A 100t quad would be a scary thing in close range.

No arms to shove up oppenents' arses ;)

Seriously though I believe that two legged is more akin to human superiority.

Yes, whereas the hoplits looks ugly, the White flame looks like a biped that fell over. Be fairly funny if the jump jet was in the "rear"

That one actually looks neat, despite that maneuvering it would be interesting to say the least.

That actually looks rather... cute. And since it looks like a bug, you could name it "BB" as in "Big Bug", or "******".

Now that one looks like it has the potential firepower to actually do some serious harm to anyone foolish enough to get into range. And it looks like it could rotate the whole thing too.

A quad kicking an atlas in the face so it loses balance and falls down would be so awesome. :D

This ended up being quite a big multiquote.

Everyone is saying faster turning speed with quadmechs? If you mean turning/pivoting at the waist, this would be wrong. Seeing as a quadmech has no waist, it would have to turn all the way around assuming the weapon being fired is fixed. Losing a leg would be the same on 2 or 4 legs. You're still losing a leg and are basically fd. Mechwarrior tabletop game, quadmechs are great with defense and range, other than that, they just kinda look cool.

I think it's pretty clear those "furry half-hamsters" are in fact the greatest warriors in the galaxy. After all, they took out a whole regiment of troopers (and mechanized support) and took only a single casualty.
