as stated by others entire sensor/targeting system needs overhaul, especially if they ever want any real role warfare in this game.
For now if they would at least remove ability to get target lock from allies when a Tag/Narc or other piece of special equipment is not in use it would go a long way.
Right now LRM's are either pathetic garbage or a horrific raining hell of destruction (try caustic vs a good narcer and a team with multiple LRM carriers there is NO avoiding LRM's on that map if you are in range and not under ECM due to how all the hills are slopped).

That is why I modified a suggestion post I created to add more depth to LRMs.
I originally made it where you don't share targets at all unless you have C3.
Now, I made it where you only share targets if you keep a target selected for longer than 5.0s. That means you have to select a target for an extended period of time before it's shared. None of this "fast cycling between targets to share them" business.

That's not how spotting works. Right now the only effective IDF "spotting" is done with UAV and NARC because sitting there staring down your target is a good way to get annihilated by focus fire. Making direct spotting even worse is not going to do anything about the effectiveness of IDF tactics.

I differ on that opinion.
I find that some mech usually runs around to a side, sees some enemy mech they can target for a few seconds and missiles immediately begin to fire at that target. Sure, that mech usually runs away due to fire happening at that mech but the missiles are still let loose, none the less.
NARC/UAV are really good ways to get LRM fire on a target but can be directly countered by GECM (which is a good thing) or shooting the UAV down (again, a good thing).
Another thing that not sharing selected targets immediately is that then a player has to watch someone, which helps with flanking. Sure, if you are spotted from a long ways away when attempting this and can not retaliate, then your just going to get spotted and shared to the rest of the enemy team. But because targets are not immediately shared, this makes pilots have to be more independent to themselves.

It was entirely about how much battlefield information is given to a team just by pressing R.
As opposed to TT Double Blind rules where you just had to have a mech on your sensors at all, not even locked as a target, for your allies to mark it's location. Instead of one mech you would see every enemy mech an allied mech can "spot" even if they didn't have a single target lock.
