It's either Environment Detail or Texture Detail but I'm just guessing.
I think it's a sign of bad design if trees disappear from low to high settings because it puts people who play on the highest and most beautiful settings at a disadvantage. Ever try Forest Colony on highest detail? You'll spend the map being shot in the face through trees that you can't see past. I think this invisible terrain thing is somewhat related.
